I think to answer this properly, I'd ask one of your teachers or an HR rep from any company that does this type of work, but, I think an operator job would be classed as "hourly". In the eyes of the state, any time after 40 hours would qualify as overtime, so daily hours may not be as important as the classification of the job. You could get into a saleried position and overtime becomes a non-issue....you simply don't get paid for overtime.

OT depends on the size of the company(Or it did when I was a mechanic for a contractor, years ago.)
We worked as long as there was daylight, and work to be done. Usually six to six in the summer. Six day weeks as well, but Saturdays we usually knocked of by three or four.

it means not be offended yes? i am slowly learning this term, it wil help in the future, i am behind the world in many conversational aides and sources..
i come from customer services and tae kwon do, and aikido, where order and politeness was very regarded as valuable, though to deal with perhaps difficult personalities.. is something i need some practice in, now, this is not i think a reason for poor treatment.. however, definition of this term is required..

thanks guys, also ,meet next wed.. at pizza parlor

Did you mean to start a new thread?

Thick skinned does mean: not easily offended.

So far as I know, there is not a legal limit. When I worked for that contractor, I averaged about 65 hours a week. I have also worked doubles(16 hours on, eight off) for three or four days in a row. It is tough but possible.

it woudl appear that it all dpends on the crew and it depends on making very very sure you dont end up in a situation that requires you to wrok that many hours, very sure.. it will be very hard work in your life, i know that .. but making very sure you speak up and making very sure you dont end up ina situation that you end up needing that work schedule to get by, making sure you get paid enough and being very sure you r careful with your money..

The best way to be sure is to look at the website for the Dept of Labor who publishes the rules for overtime. It is ltd by number of emps. but the number is low, so most businesses qualify. It is in general over 8 hours p/day and over 40 p/week but some industries have different rules, ie: medical where it is 80 over 2 weeks and over 10 p/day. Union rules also may affect.

This is all coming from memory and is old info, so check the DOL for the Federal Wage and Hour guidelines

anyone know why a person would be needed to put a cloth over the intake of a lawnmower motor intake, the filter is gone, would that be why? it sounds liek it would be a vaccuum problem... perhaps not sealing the valves as well?

also, are the larger companies going to be the ones who awork 69-76 horus a week, or are teh smaller ones, i am ignorant, and i want to know exactly what i am getting into, i am to undergo CDL training near the end of feb. after sandblast, adn hope t oget a job with teh state, and only work with the contractors during the time in between a work with the state, i have at this time no plan to stay with teh commercial industries..

If the filter is gone then the motor is probably in poor shape from general bad care and ingesting dirt. If the diaphram in the carb is hard from old age it could be running lean and the cloth would richen up the mixture. It would also probably be hard to start. I guess it also give you something to do with old Do rags.

Good luck on the CDL. I went to one of those 10 day wirlwind schools years ago. In Indiana part of the driving test was doing a 3 cone slolom backwards with trailer. NC did not require that when I got mine. The NC road test was a piece of cake. The hardest written section is the Hazmat section. It is also the longest written test of the bunch. If you have the Hazmat endorsement on your CDL then you are subject to random drug testing.

Oh why are you worried about working if you are going for a state job?

My bet is the guy lost the filter and just stuck a handy cloth on the intake to keep the big dirt out. (I also have worked for several power equipment shops. It is amazing the crazy stuff guys will do to keep their equipment running for the rest of the day, at the expense of its longevity.)

It will all depend on their business. If they are busy and can not find labor, they will work more hours, if they are not........

DOL can give you the work rules, look on the NC.gov website and the US government websites
