next up is to get my remote desktop fired up from Angier. and then sort out the "svc host" error message i keep getting, which apparently is screwing with my local printer to remote server connection.
Steve,
If you're looking to get remote access and control of a computer somewhere else, say at your office from home, you need to check out LogMeOn.com.
It's FREE, or at least the stripper version is, but that's really all you need. There's easy work arounds for some of the excluded functions, like no file transfers or printing (at your remote location). You just email the dang file to yourself at a web mail eddress.
It's for sure secure since my wife and all the ITs who she works with use it to access their computers at their corporate office, and from there on to the LAN. You can bet yer arse they're security conscious, and wouldn't touch it if there were holes in it like all of WIlly's crap has.
It's easy to use. It works. It allows for a user on both ends to have 'keyboard / mouse' control simultaneously if wished. Pretty much impossible to screw it up. All you need is a legit eddress and browser access to the INet from anywhere.
If that's not what you're looking for your specific problem above, you and others might find it quite handy for personal use. I know I do. I'm in Thomasville and last night and tonight have been 'logged on' to my Raleigh computer pulling maintenance on it.
While connected you still have regular control of the entire remote computer and access to any other sites online as normally. I just run it in one of the 'tabs' in the Firefox window I'm using, especially when I need to coordinate functions at both ends. Ya'll do use Firefox don't you... ;)
When I'm in Raleigh I can log on to my Mother's computer here to help her out with any problems she's having or programs she doesn't understand, and do maintenance for her to keep it running as smooth as possible
This is an 'honest to gawd' FREE INet service that is amazingly useful, and as I said 'It WORKS!' How many others can you say that about...
Hope this helps, if not you, somebody,
Steve
