I'm interested in buying a 1992 - 1995 Civic VX hatchback as a daily driver. They get something like upper 40s for city driving and mid 50s on the highway. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge about these cars (e.g., watch out for x, y, or z....or they are great cars, etc.). I've been searching the internet for the past month and they just don't seem to come up for sale. I'm guessing with high gas prices people just don't want to part with them. Any information would be helpful in educating me about what I should be looking for. Thanks.

Eric

Pricey for a rust bucket, but then again he knows what he has. Only one on Craigslist that I see, too. I'm guessing with a VX you ain't finding one with AC.

There's one on eBay at $405, but it's a NJ car in much worse shape than the one above. Man, I think my sister-in-law used to have one of these back in the day.

There's only two on autotrader, and both are projects from hell (and one has already been "upgraded" for you, unfortunately).

I'm guessing you want to fit the kids in there, otherwise this one would be a good deal you could probably get running cheap:

Spend the big bucks and get a used VW TDI.

Or find someone who "upgraded" their HF and wants to throw away the motor. Buy it and, err, "downgrade" another Civic. Can't be too hard to do. You've got a garage and a bitchin set of tools. ;)

There's an 80k engine in VA for $700. Now you just need a rust-free body. :)

Thanks Donnie. I'm surprised on missed the one on Craig's List since I've been checking it often. The rust and no A/C is enough to keep me away from that car. Fortunatley, I'm in no rush and don't mind waiting. I've thought about a TDI, but VW gets hammered so bad on reliability issues that I'm a bit hesitant to get one.

Thanks,
ep

This is incredible! 70+ mpg? I'm lucky if I get 25 mpg in my Integra.

Good luck on your search Eric.

No way you can get in the 70s with a VX. Upper 40s yes. You must rev your Type R alot I get 30-32 mpg with the Crossfire.

That sounds about right...got to stay out of the V-tec yo!

My 93 gets about 28-29 around town usually. The Prelude is more like 22...:(
