Came up to a blinking yellow/red intersection and two vehicles decided that they wanted to occupy the same space. Interestingly enough, the airbags weren't deployed in the Denali. The Caravan is toast, and was leaking gas. I never thought that I'd have to try to calm down a hysterical woman when I woke up this morning; she never even lifted through the blinking yellow. Fortunately everybody was okay. The driver of the pickup took things a lot better than I would have thought given how he ended up being a Caravan catcher. Also, I thought that it was interesting that the Caravan's engine was still running and that the wheel in the air was still going.

Highway engineers in this state suck when it comes to designing and marking roads. What exactly does a blinking yellow mean? Is there even a legal definition for it? Who can accurately define it? "woman didn't even lift...", was she supposed to?
Donna and I were involved in an accident at the same type intersection on 70 at the airport road before they put in the overpass. On 70 we had a blinking yellow, hi-cube truck pulled out from blinking red right in front of us. Lucky we weren't killed!
Afterwards I called DOT and asked why there wasn't a full signal there. Answer: because it would slow down the traffic on 70. DUH, no kidding??? (so from that I assume you are NOT supposed to slow down for a blinking yellow...)

from the pics it looks to me that this was a regular intersection with (normally) changing lights and that the lights were on "flash" for some reason (Wes???).

But, my understanding of a flashing yellow is "proceed with caution". Does not mean stop, look and listen- but I usually SLOW down, especially in a situation like this, because for the folks who drive through this intersection 10x per day, their brains may not be able to handle it if the light is doing something different like flashing red or yellow.

Flashing red (or ANY red for that matter) means STOP, then proceed with caution when the road is clear.

Oh, I'm sure they appreciated your Paparazzi photo-shoot too Wes... :)
