That is right. It is time for a movie thread. I will go first:
"The sea Hawk" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033028/
First off I present "The Sea Hawk" This is one of the Errrol Flynn classics. He is Thorpe, captaining the Albatross against the Spanish for England. To Be honest, this one is a bit slow compared to "Captain Blood", Flynns first big flick. This is still pretty good if a bit slow for those used to "Pirates of the Caribbean" The interplay is enough to keep you into the movie. The action is OK with the battles and very good with the ship battles. Flynn really was a great actor for this classic action type film, able to keep emotion and character. Very much the classic black&white swashbuckler.
Worth the watch.

This is a documentary on Black Cinema (Blaxploitation) Pretty good. Scenes from movies like Shaft, Coffy, Superfly, follewed by interviews with directors and actors from the start of Blaxploitation, like Melvin Van Peebles and Pam Grier.

Saw "Borat" last night. Screamingly funny. If you are easily offended, stay far away from this movie.

This is one of my favorites. Stalag 17

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046359/

William Holden won best actor for his role. His acceptance speach was "Thank you"

Stalag 17 does kick butt. Less starpower than The Great Escape, but more endearing. It makes you wonder how people ever came up with Hogan's Heroes too ...

I saw the best movie of all time last night.

The Departed

If Scorsese doesnt win Best Picture with that, its a complete sham. Every actor in it turned in a classic performance.

Predator 2

Pretty silly but I like Danny Glover, and seeing the skull of an Alien in the predators trophy room is pretty cool.

I really want to see The Departed, it looks good in the ads.

That's good stuff. I'm a big Superfly fan, same with The Mack and Let's Do It Again. Blacula is great too. I haven't watched Shaft or Dolemite in a long time. The other films like Sweet Sweetback and Hell up in Harlem aren't quite up to snuff, though IMHO. I thought that there was going to be a sort of renaissance in the early nineties with the Hughes brothers, John Singleton and Spike Lee making advances and changing the genre to something more realistic, but things just never seemed to get off the ground.

So how do you feel about Eisenstein?

I really enjoyed the Departed too... not sure I'd say best of all time... but pretty damn good... some others for best of all time consideration in my opinion:

Usual Suspects
Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Apollo 13
Gran Prix (Cause you can't have a movie thread on a sports car club forum without mentioning the best racing movie of ALL time)

I've seen WAY too many movies to declare that about just one. I'd give The Departed a "pretty good" or about an 8 on the 10 scale. Some others that are right there at an 8 or maybe a 9 for me:

Shawshank Redemption
The Italian Job (new version)
A Few Good Men
Gone in 60 Seconds
The Green Mile

This makes for an excellent movie shopping list:

http://imdb.com/chart/top

Just scan the first 100 or so for something you haven't seen, pick a genre, and rent it :) Can't go wrong!

Of the movies I have seen, I pretty much agree with the ranking/placement. The list does have a somewhat techie bent to it, with sci-fi perhaps ranking a little higher than it would for the general public.
