Oct 20-22 at Rockingham dragway.
This is the "Big Show", where the season's champions will be crowned.
All the Pro classes: Top Fuel, Nitro Funnycar, ProMod, Alchohol Funnycar, ProStock will be there in force as well as > 1000 sportsman dragracers.
IMHO Saturday is the best show where every car there will make at least a couple passes as they try to qualify for Sunday's elimination rounds.
The pro classes will make their third qualifying pass Saturday afternoon and final do or go home qualifier Saturday evening during the greatest spectacle in dragracing, the "Night of Fire". There is no more awesome sight, sound and feeling (the ground litterally shakes) than 20,000 HP of top fuel dragsters shooting exhaust flames 50' in the air making 4 sec 300+ MPH blasts under the lights! And if that isn't enough they throw in exhibition runs by wheelstanders and jetcars as well.
The pits are open to spectators throughout the event, so you can walk up to all the cars take pictures, get autographs and watch the crews do complete engine rebuilds in less than an hour.
This is the Indy 500 of dragracing and it's right here in our backyard, don't miss it!

I might have to try to go this year. Been wanting to for a while, but something always seems to come up.

Let us know if you are going if you'd like to meet up. We'll be cheering on our friend Mike Janis as he goes for his 3rd Pro Mod world championship. He is currently 3rd in points and could take it if he repeats his last year's event win.

Weather forcast says it's going to be a PERFECT weekend! I expect to see some records fall.
Mike Janis had his ProMod at VMP yesterday to do some last minute testing before heading to the Rock today.
This is one of the best spectacles in racing, makes Indy look like a parade.

It looks like at least my brother, my daughters and myself will be going. Might have my Dad also.

Should be a good time.

I might have a couple of kids in tow as well.

we might have to leave early... it really depends on how the Cardinals do in tonights game 7 against the mets. If they win, they will be in the world series which starts at 8pm on Saturday. :)

You'd deprive your kids of seeing the Night of Fire and Fireworks show just to watch the first game of the WS????
The afternoon round of pro qualifying starts at 2:00.
I PMed Todd my cell# give us a call when you arrive so we can meet up.
I'm sure Mike wouldn't mind if we all left some stuff at his pit space so you won't have to haul it around all day.
Don't forget your cameras!

WOO HOOO! After first round of Pro mod qualifying (rounds 2,3 tomorrow)
Mike is qualified #4 out of 32 cars that made runs with a 6.085 @ 232+ MPH. The top 16 after round 3 will advance to eliminations on Sun. His time about guarantees him a spot in the show, so now he can concentrate on going for the record bonus points. He already holds the track MPH record he set last year. Looks like we're likely see the first 5 sec Promod runs ever in competition this weekend! 8)

Saturday's runs were some of the best we have ever seen! Unfortunately it looks like elimination rounds will get postponed until Monday. :(
The weather and track were absolutely perfect Sat tho, so almost all the Pro classes have qualified the quickest fields ever!
Our friend Mike's Friday night 6.08 pass was his personal quickest to that point, but it turns out it would have barely made the field as the 16th qualifier after last round was a 6.10 pass!!!! Mike improved with a 6.06 run Sat eve. to be in the 7th qualifying spot.
Mike was third in points 30 points out from his 3rd world championship coming in to this race, and 10 points out of second. The 2nd place points holder didn't even manage to qualify so Mike will move past him with his first elimination round run, and the points leader almost didn't make the field either just squeaking into the 13th qualifying spot on his last run. Whoever goes the most elimination rounds, Mike or Quain will be this year's World Champion!!!! Mike loves Rockingham, and won this event last year, so my money is on him to take home the Ironman! GO MIKE!!!!

That was fun!!!!!!!!!

The Pro Mod class was amazingly quick! Mike Janis was very quick but that field just kept getting quicker in the night session. The whole field was in the 6.0xx's! Fastest time was a 6.01x, not quite the 5 second run everyone was predicting, but still pretty darn quick.

But the admission price was worth every penny once the Top Fuel cars came out. The Funny Cars and TF Dragsters!!!!! All I can say is HOLY CRAP those things are loud!!!! When they drop the hammer, the whole ground shakes, your organs bounce around in your body and you can't hear anything else!!! What an amazing ride that must be!

Unfortunately, due to all the oil downs in the night session of the TFDs, we left before the end of the event. Still didn't get back home until 1245 this morning.

I am uploading the pictures to Photobucket. I'll post some in a minute.

Chuck, sorry we didn't meet up. I had no cell phone service once I got down there. Damn Cingular!!!

Well they got the track dried by 5:00 PM Sunday and ran some of the eliminations before shutting it down again at 8:30 when the temp reached the dewpoint.
Mike got out of the groove and lost in the first round, ending his Championship hopes. :( But one of the Promods did run a 5.99 in that round to be the first ever in the 5's.
They are running the semi final rounds and finals today, so we'll have to wait for the final points shake out to see just where Mike finished.
