I'm thinking 02 Z06 about mid-year build based on the VIN.

So, anyone recommend a good shop to have a car checked out in the Middlesex area, Zebulon, Wendell, Wilson, etc?

I thought of him, didn't realize he is in Bailey, that is very close to where the car is, how convenient. Got contact info?

I got no response from Randy, any other mechanic recommendations? Graham? Steve? Preferably someone familiar with Corvettes.

Dave Davis (Dave's Automotive a club sponsor) 829-9599 probably can help you. Chip Stabler use to race a Corvette I believe and Dave was his mechanic. When I first started going to Dave the was always a racing Corvette that he maintained in the extra bay.

Yes Vincent, Dave knows all.

Or at least according to you and Steve

In all seriousness though this guy Dave supposedly has experience doing Vettes. Although I beleive Stablers' was a C4.

The only place I know of in Raleigh is a shop downtown that has worked on Vettes for many years. I think it is called Tigers. Never used them but I have heard them recommended several times.

Quite honestly I don't let anyone work on my car. So far it isn't horribly different from my C4 when it comes to working on it.

Since it appears you're looking at an 02 or newer you don't have to deal with the re-ring issue. Check the diff on each side where the axles connect. There is a cover on each side. They are notorious for leaking on the drivers side. It has been a TSB since 01. Mine only does after lots of abuse on track. But you never find a drop of gear oil on the floor in the garage and the diff never shows low. You just see the stain around the cover.

Since getting my 02 the only thing wrong with it was the original battery. If this car you're looking at has the original battery then check the posts. On mine the positive post all but fell off. That's the only stock thing I had to fix so far. I can't really tell you anything else to be worried about. Just check the basic stuff like any used car you would buy.

Oh I just thought of one other place. CAM - Jeff Creach. When I was in there getting a dyno tune. They had several cars, Vette, Camaro, GTO in there getting cams, headers etc and 1 Vette getting the rear suspension worked on. They should be able to look over a C5 and give you feedback.

If the current owner is the original owner. It should have all the dealer service, recall, TSB work done to it documented. I got all that stuff when I bought mine. It was all done and only had 12K on it and just off warranty due to age.

If the owner bought the GMPP then that is a bonus.

alright Les, yeah Dave can do a thorough inspection for mechanicals. don't know how up to date he is on the C5. i know there is one guy with an 01 that brings his in for HPDE prep regularly. i do know Dave is in up to his eyeballs this week with work. mention Mitch or myself and maybe he can squeeze you in.

CAM seems to keep a bunch of chevy iron in their shop. last time i was there they had 3 or 4 corvettes they were working on.

my diff leaked about a week after i brought it home. after two trips to the dealer to replace the drain plug washer it stopped and has not done so since. biggest thing i had replaced was the HUD. they had a time figuring out the problem so they just replaced the whole unit. good luck
