I recently purchased an older Honda bike and I need the seat recovered and refoamed. Any recommendations out there? I looked on line at some of the specialty bike shops and a new seat is not cheap, or more like, I don't want to spend that type of money on an old bike.

Any recommendations? This doesn't have to be perfect, just looking for a decent job to make the seat more comfortable.

thanks...

At my former employer we used to use Earp's Upholstery. I know they do car work but I do not know about bike seats.

Here is their website. http://www.realpagessites.com/earpsupholstery/

I had Cary Upholstery do a couple of bike seats for me. Based on my experience, if your descriptive skills are lacking bring a picture of what you want it to look like. There is a cashier at WholeFoods that does some great work(He also screeen prints). If you want I can ask him about doing the seat.

Dean's Upholstery, on 54 in the Morrisville area. Did good work on a Bandit 1200 that was in my household at the time. I've had other recommendations for him from other bikers too.

Well, since you asked, I purchased this....

http://home.nc.rr.com/imwright/images/85sabre.jpg

It's an '85 Honda Sabre with 39k on the odo. Purchased from a metric wrench near Garner, it's in good shape mechaniclly. It's had the top end of the motor gone over, the tranny has been repaired, fork seals replaced, front brake caliper rebuilt and new fluids through out. It's a 700cc v4 and it's a great bike so far. Can't believe the wife gave me kitchen permission to buy it, but it was realitively cheap. The reason I want the seat recovered is to stiffen up the foam...my a$$ keeps going to sleep on the damn thing...

If any one has an old metric bike that needs to be worked on, I highly recommend Sam. I have his number if you want it.

What can I say other than yes, please ask what he'll do the job for. What information would he need to give me a quote?

Thanks all,

Can't recall their name right off, but the shop that's been around for years and always had a good rep is right at the railroad tracks on N. West St. ( I think that's right ). Hang on I'll see if I can search it out.....

Well, I found it, sorta:

Auto Interiors & Tops
303 N West St, Raleigh, NC 27603
(919) 821-4425

Pretty sure they had a different name, so perhaps they were bought out.

Check 'um out,

Steve

I second that recommendation. They are a first rate shop...

Mark,

Did they have a different name awhile back? Perhaps my ol pea brain is jes fuzzy, 'cause their web site and ads say they've been in business since '73 (at least that long for sure... I'd have thought longer than that, but again the ol memory comes up short)..... and as a family business (which right there usually tells you something about a successful company). I'm thinking that they may have just changed it sometime back for whatever reason.

I'd dig out an old phone book and look it up, but my po ol back deal from my 'Over Easy Miata' trick is barking at me tonight. :(

I don't recall them having a different name, although its been awhile since I used them. They replaced a top on a convertible for me, and while there I noticed a lot of classic car work around the shop. A lot of interior restoration. It just struck me as a well run shop in general.

Thanks all,

Sabre is a NEAT old bike. Same engine as my old '85 Interceptor which I still miss dearly -- was stolen when I lived in Boston. The water-cooled V4 is a really cool motor.

Let me know if you want to go for a ride sometime, I'll dust off my 85 CB700SC Nighthawk S :)

Sweetie has informed me that my CRS & early onset of 'ol Timer's disease is obviously acting up of late and that AFASK they've always had the present name. Sorry to muddle up the otherwise worthy ref.

So, as nted per Mark & myself, check'um out.
