November issue of C&D has an interesting article about a new program to do regular car testing at VIR (apparently the N Ring was outside the budget). Lots of data from the Grand East config, including entrance/average/exit speeds at various track segments. They plan to visit once or twice a year with new cars to test.

Elsewhere in the same issue they rent Shelby Mustangs from Hertz. Pretty funny. Raleigh @ $100/day appears to be the bargain.

Hmmmmm... neat idea, I'll have to give that some consideration.

Thanks,

FWIW, Hertz has put a pin underneath the traction control button to prevent turning the TC off; this can be removed by pulling the button out with a small screwdriver and pulling it out.

I think they also said that the rental contract expressly prohibits any timed, untimed, race like activity. Without the budget of the C&D, that could be mighty spensive. I wonder if they have a black box....

My guess is that they do have some sort of black box. They know what we would do with the car, right? Hell, they knew back in the 60's what people were doing with the old GT350H but they couldn't prove it back then.

Owned one w/ an auto, which was purchased originally to get the top and wheels, it being a '95 M-Ed w/ the 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' Merlot paint that'd make ya wanna steal it if ya hadda. In any case, my wife, who likes stick shifts just fine used it for commuting and around town for the good mileage; our intention being to sell it. Which I finally did, making a good margin on it after having the good sense to leave it correct for the M-Ed; leaving the wheels on it.

Long story short, of all the four bangers I've driven w/ autos I gotta say the Miata w/ a four speed version acquitted itself much better than most, and frankly for around town w/ all the stop and go traffic I found it to be a pleasure to drive. It really gave up little in the 'git up'n'go' department.

Given the thread title, I'm leaning towards Better Homes and Gardens myself.
