If you want to talk Porsche I can give you some hint.
Mike is right about towing, keep it at least below 3/4 of the load rating.
With the Suburban, the enclosed trailer and the Porsche are about 1/2
of the tow rating and the thing is towing admirably. I don't even need to used the tow mode
of the transmission.

I send you an e-mail.

I jumped on the Miata badnwagon myself and haven't looked back. Coming from the power of a Cobra may leave you wanting in the longer straights though. I would also suggest an S2000 if they weren't so hard to get safety equipment for.

Another great option for the price range might be a FF5 competiton roadster. There are plenty of them out there from their spec series, and they will have a lot of mechanical similarities to your Cobra.

Thanks you everyone for you suggestions. I tow an open 16' trailer which is about 1000 lb. When I think about going to the Older Porsche I am thinking about something between '83 and '89 and I would try and find a 911 turbo aka 930. One of the reason is because of having gotten use to having a blown Cobra. I think that I might miss the power. Of course it is the power that can get you in and out of trouble. In my case mostly in trouble. :D

You all have giving me a lot to think about Thank You again.

I second the used z06 as a great replacement. :) I just happen to be about ready to list my z06 for sale (after Nationals at the end of this month). I have a bunch of good stuff on the car (all SuperStock legal, e.g. Penkse Double Adjustable Shocks, front bar, Hawk pads, spare wheels, etc.) that would translate well into a great track car. This car will likely be a bit over your proposed budget though -- still under 40k though with all of the good stuff included.

PM me if you are interested.

You will not find a more thrilling or capable car cheaper. Likely has around 350 hp at the wheels and weighs about a 1000 lbs less than your Cobra. Or I can sell you mine for $10k and I'll buy this one.

Looks like it has all the parts. I am not going to put my Cobra on the market until Nov. Then I will no what kind of money I have to spend.

Marty... excellent suggestion for Kim... and since you are NOTORIOUS for not providing any links to anything (wink, wink)...

http://www.factoryfive.com/

Not sure how near the price range the end result would be (buying a complete car is probably more expensive than finding a mustang donor and buying the FF kit)

Also... I can't believe no one has mentioned an E30 325 yet?!

Thanks Marty and Stacey, I have looked into a FFR car. I even have the assembly manual for the Spec Racer. Also I have a friend who is building a FFR Mk III right now. I have even spend some time helping him. But once it is built there is real not much else you can do with it, in terms of modifications. I think that I would enjoy being able to make changes to my vehicle from season to season. Also if I was to hit a tire wall or something harder I am not sure how easy the body would be to repair.

My head is still spinning over the idea of voluntarily selling a Mustang!

Anyway, since you've already lost your mind and are babbling about hitting tire walls with a car you don't even have yet, I'd like to point out that car repair costs are secondary to medical bills. You need a car with generous crush zones to protect your noggin and appendages. Luckily, my cousin in S.C. has a fine car with excellent crush zones that I'm sure he would be willing to sell for the right price. Of course, I'm talking about a 1976 Gran Torino Elite, similar to this car http://www.affordableclassicsinc.com/Cl ... _elite.htm

My cousin's car is navy blue, with matching naugahyde flight bench seats, and the G.T.E. trademark padded vinyl landau roof with two portholes per side for all-around visibility. The mighty 351W will make you forget that silly 281 in your old car, and you can tow that Ridgeline to the track behind it.

Thanks Arthur but no thanks You are right about worrying about thing that have not happen. But I do not want to "give up my mustang" for just any old car. I know that "if" I get something else it needs to be a better track car than the Cobra. So that is why I am thinking about such things as repairs.

simply getting something other than a Ford should cut down on repairs from the get go. wouldn't you agree Art? sorry could not resist.

Kim, I think you're missing a big opportunity: Just imagine the pleasure you would take in blowing by Remchak on track, waving goodbye out of the dual side porthole windows!

If you had posted this question to a forum other than the lounge, I would have seconded the Miata recommendation.
