I'll PM you some info he might want to consider on headers and the like.

Thanks for the PM. I'll forward the information to my dad. I'd love to bring him to a local autocross/track day, but he lives in Colorado, so it's doubtful. He's had his share of fast cars and drives pretty well for someone who who comes off as mild mannered.

He's had two Corvettes in the past, both Chevy orange. One was a '69 with sidepipes and the other was a '71. 4 speed standards in both. I can remember when my parents got divorced in the mid 70's and my dad would pick the 3 of us up in the Vette (his only car at the time) My sisters would sit 2 deep in the passenger seat and I would ride on the center console. No seatbelts of course ;) Yes, the '70's were good times :) - AB

He bought a $100 lottery ticket for Habitat for Humanity that was giving away the Corvette. They sold 1000 tickets. Of course he didn't win, but the winner didn't know, as would most I would think, that the car would fall under the Colorado state gaming tax laws. Thus, the winner of the car had to pay 53% taxes within the first two weeks of claiming the prize. Which on a car with an MSRP of $52k+, is somewhere in the ballpark of $27.5k. Well, the immediately tried to sell it for $45k and got no buyers. My dad went down and looked at it, knowing it was the same car for they wrote in their advertisement how they acquired it and he offered them $40k in cash. They declined so my dad left his # anyway. He got a call about a week later and the guy wanted $41k. My dad wouldn't budge, so he got the car for $40k. I think the car had 100 miles on it, which by my standards is still a new car.

I think it's a pretty nice deal ;) - AB

sorry guys, I HAVE sat in a new Vette, and I have sat in an A3 before, and the two just don't compare in terms of quality of the materials used and the overal fit and finish of the vehicle. I'm not doubting that the Vette is better than past Vette's, they have certainly made progress, but its nowhere near Audi quality. I know this is a primarily performance oriented community, so it doesn't suprise me that the overwhelming support is for the Vette, however, lets be realistic here. The new Vette's interior is nice, FOR A CHEVY. The Audi's interior is NICE, period.

I guess it's a personal preference thing, but from a reliability standpoint, the Audi is a VW after all... - AB

very true, I've been horribly disappointed in VW/Audi reliability, my brother had a JEtta that was a disaster. I'm not even saying that I would take the Audi over the Vette, just saying its not a very fair comparison, and they are cars marketed at very different types of people. You can't really fault them for trying to sell it though, people bought the R32 in the past (not trying to rip PJ or anything, but even HE thinks his car was overpriced), so I don't see why they wouldn't buy this one.
