I talked to my dad last night and he mistyped in his email. It came out at 327whp  The dyno does not correct for altitude and the car wasn't either (ECU wise). They did some tuning and got it to 349 whp, which appears to be typical of the C6's. He put a new Borla on yesterday and will be re-dynoing it again, so it will be interesting to see his results.

Brice has certainly never been in a C5 or C6 Corvette in his life when commenting on luxury. They are absolutely plush inside these days. My reason for comparing the two is price, for they both have very limited room inside (I've driven an A3 and was not impressed with appointments, handling, or anything). - AB

That's more like it Aaron. And his numbers with a tune are about right. Tell him to pull the stock paper filter and drop in a K&N or equivalent. He'll get more HP from that than the Borla. On the C5 (Z06 notably) and I beleive all C6(s) the catback isn't for more HP. It's to get the exhaust note to something you like. The C5 Z06 exhaust is good to 500hp. If he wants to wake up an LSx motor with bolt-ons then long tube headers all the way. With a set of LG Long Tubes and hi flow cats using the stock TI exhaust on my Z06. I can expect 20-30rwhp gain with a fresh tune.

I also agree with you on the luxury part. The C6 is nice. The Z06 option is raw and not really nice. But that was the design goal. You could drive cross country in a C6. And surprisingly I can stuff a lot of crap in my Z06 trunk.

Graham

I was reading about the long tubes and yes, guys are getting around 20-30 whp with them. Very impressive. I'll let him know about the K&N too, for he lives in a really dusty area.

He bought the Borla for sound only, but feels his butt dyno is stronger. He's like old and stuff, so what does he know ;)

Yes, the non-Z06 models can be very cushy. His car has is not fully loaded though. He has a 2LT package with the z51 suspension, removable roof and the 18"/19" combo polished aluminum 5 spoke wheels. Victory Red with black leather...

The car is very pretty. - AB

sorry guys, I HAVE sat in a new Vette, and I have sat in an A3 before, and the two just don't compare in terms of quality of the materials used and the overal fit and finish of the vehicle. I'm not doubting that the Vette is better than past Vette's, they have certainly made progress, but its nowhere near Audi quality. I know this is a primarily performance oriented community, so it doesn't suprise me that the overwhelming support is for the Vette, however, lets be realistic here. The new Vette's interior is nice, FOR A CHEVY. The Audi's interior is NICE, period.

I guess it's a personal preference thing, but from a reliability standpoint, the Audi is a VW after all... - AB

Blows it away on a racetrack for sure, but if I had to pick one of the two cars for a cross country trip for example, I'd take the S3 in a second over a Corvette. . .

I'd pick the vette, just because you couldn't count on the audi to get you across country!

As for the A3 interior. We were going to test drive one, until we sat in it. Whoever designed that interior should be forced to let the exterior designers kick them on the way out the door.

That was really one of the worse interiors I've ever seen.

not sure what you is neenereren Kevin, but of course a new model year is going to have bugs, and as such the corvette would of course be listed.

at the same time the C5 was rated exceedingly reliable by F-ning Consumer Reports or as it should be referred to as 'Japanese Automakers are the Greatest Reports"

i would not buy any model redisgn no matter what make. example being Honda 1992, redesign of the Civic. they had yet to perfect the front suspension & drivetrain if i remember correctly.

there is a sweet 06 used Z06 at Hendricks in their showroom. two toned seats and the haunches of a true track beast. hehehehehehehe

I'll PM you some info he might want to consider on headers and the like.

He might be getting a touch more TQ in the low-mid range and his buttometer is feeling it. Old and stuff huh, watch your mouth sonny

Without the Z51 option the car would be more cushy, but who wants cushy in a Vette

I wouldn't compare it to that Audi either. The Vette is a sportS car where that Audi is a sportY car. Big difference. I would take a BMW over the Audi in the same price range any day. But the seats in that Audi do look good.
