"lack of turnout" referring to drivers or fans??
I know when I ran out there, we would often have ~30 cars running in the "Pure Stock 4 cyl" class and it was a blast. Alot of the fans commented that it was the best racing out there, mostly due to the number of cars on that small track at one time. I haven't run out there in a couple of years, due to a couple of things- one of which was that it was no longer fun trying to keep up with the front runners as they upped the ante and started building tube-frame race cars with $$$$ engines- in what was supposed to be a "pure stock" class. I ran a stripped out BMW 320i shell that I dragged out of Bowie Gray's driveway after it got flooded- I stuck a ~200k+ junkyard engine in and ran it that way for 2 years before a quick and dirty rebuild. I had more fun at WCS than many other tracks I've been to...
If they are lacking fans, I don't know why they are surprised. I rarely see any advertising for WCS, and most of the folks who go to watch seem to be "regulars" who have been going for years, or friends/family of drivers. If you've never gone to watch, it is alot of fun- always some excitement to be seen and heard.
I hope they find the right formula to keep the track open.
