Saturday I went to Stuttgart visited the Porsche Museum and the show room. Saw some nice cars. The new museum is coming up, last February it was only a big hole now at least we can see something. On my way back I stop by Rothenburg a very old city. Sunday I went to the Nurburgring. When I arrive there it was foggy and the track was closed waiting for the fog to lift off. On the Grand Prix track there was some racing organize by Renault. The entrance was free so I watch some qualification and the start of a race. After a while the fog lifts off and I return to the Nordschleife. There where some fast car, (took a lot of pictures), but on the track they where not all that fast. I pass an Aston Martin an M5 an M3 a Porsche but I got pass also. The car I am driving is an Audi A3 2.0TDI for a diesel it is pretty fast. On the autobahn it can hit 220kmh. I bought a 4 laps ticket. My target was to break the 10min from bridge to bridge. I watch some time ago an episode of Top Gear where he was driving the Ring with a Jaguar diesel and he did a 9:59 with it. The first lap I messed up with the watch and got no time. The track is like I remembered, when I was playing with GT4 back home I was saying the corners are not that fast. In real life the corner are much tighter and the elevation change more pronounce than in the game. But the layout of the track is accurate, if you want to learn the track the game is good, just don’t expect to go as fast in real life. On the second lap I did a 9:57 target achieved. Third lap I did a 9:53 on that lap there was a Honda Del Sol that hit the guardrail. They closed the track until they got it out. When the track reopened I waited a little to let the rush pass. For the last lap I got a good one and not too much traffic, this time I did a 9:37. I start like the car, I think I will be able to live with it. With the price of the gas here for sure. In US $ the regular is $6.50 a gallon and the diesel $5.50 a gallon. I would like to have Porsche to do the ring it will be a lot of fun and much faster. After my 4 laps I went to take some pictures track side.

Here a link to the Nurburgring pics and mpeg.

All I can say is I'm VERY jealous.

This is on my list of things I must do before I meet the big man...

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Thanks Patrice!! Looks like fun.

I now have a new favorite TVR. Sagaris...http://www.tvr-eng.co.uk/overview_sagaris.php

EDIT. The more I look at it though, the more I still like the T350.

Ok, I have thought about this for some time, but now I must make a trip over the pond to enjoy some of their pleasures. Thanks for sharing Patrice, hope you get to continue to enjoy your trip.

BTDT. 8)

The only thing I passed on the track was the truck picking up grass clippings!! Yes, they were mowing the grass right at the edge of the track, and had a big truck following the mowers picking up the grass clippings- all the while the track was open for laps! No way this would ever happen in this country.

I got passed by a couple of cars, and 1 bike, but traffic was thin when we were there. We did see some freshly wrecked cars at the entrance/exit to the track, a yellow 911 with armco damage down one side of the car and a smiling driver (!) and a VW polo with slightly rearranged front bumper due to some off-track excursion.

You guys are right, it is something you must do.

Bret.
