Strange thing about the Verizon EVDO connection...most of the way across Kansas my cellphone just said "Extended Network" instead of "Verizon Wireless". The whole time it was like that, my EVDO card worked, with the exception that I couldn't do anything that required a form upload. It was driving me batty trying to figure out what went wrong on my end and such. As soon as I got into Colorado and it switched back to Verizon, all was well.
Also, for those that care, I got a Kyocera KR1 router. You plug your EVDO card into it and it spits out wired or wifi internet for multiple machines. You can also use any of a few USB phones that do EVDO and it'll connect though one of those, too. It's really made by D-Link, which I'm not normally impressed with, but this seems pretty well done. I also have the Wilson signal amplifier sold by booster-antenna.com and an external antenna both for the EVDO card, which also seems to be helping a tremendous amount. That said, I also recently upgraded my Sierra Aircard 5220 to the Kyocera KPC650, which supposedly is a great upgrade as far as the radio is concerned. So who knows which of the new toys is helping the most. I just know I've had pretty good service when I've tried it.
Matt, I'm not sure, but I believe 121F (in Kansas, not Colorado) would be a pretty good bit worse than 98F at home if you were *in* the sun with it. For one thing you'd have the added difficulty that you wouldn't feel any of your sweat so you wouldn't have your alarm to keep drinking fluid. But at that point it's all semantics as it ALL sucks bad.
