Aye Zora!!!
And in 1961 Aston Martin DB4GTs had a large Z on the side signifying that they had Zagato bodies. That doesn't prove that GM copied AM any more that it does that Datsun copied GM. The cars mentioned here had zero relevence in the Japanese market where the car was named the FairLady Z. If only the US version had the Z attached (FairLady was thought far to feminine for our market thus the substitution of 240) then you might have a leg to stand on, but claiming that the 240Z was given that name to copy GM just isn't something that can be supported with facts.

:soap: BMW calling their roadster line Z, now that is another story. Way too much latter for that letter to be a coincidence. Of course I am sure some Bimwad will come and tell me that it stood for some 78 letter German word that described some part of the Z1. And don't tell me it is the Z axle. I don't buy that crap. When was the last time a German engineer ever did anything the simple way like giving something a name because it made a shape that looks like a letter? Please. Next you will tell me that 100% drive-by-wire is a good idea. Nice cars and all, don't get me wrong, but complexity is the German way.

Adam, good luck finding a car. Might a suggest one that doesn't use the letter Z.

What about a national runoffs winning SSC car fully prepped w/ many many spares?

Sure it is FWD and low HP, but it is ready to run 100% and was built in the late 90s. (Fuel injection and ABS are good things)

If it is a Neon ACR that is certainly a very good way to get good seat time.

Not bad, I thought about one of those myself a while ago. MazdaSpeedComp program is good and will help. IIRC the only real issue with those cars is that the trans is pretty fragile. There was an F and a G code trans and one of them was a little less than up to the task. I would see which one your car comes with.

Sorry so vague, this was about 5 years ago I was looking.

Jim, I guess that you're hung up on the 26th letter of the alphabet to hide the fact that you don't have a real V8 in your car, right?

Hmmm...since I have a 5.0, 6.0 and 7.4 V8 at my disposal, I can assure you that they all are real V8's :-)

Way to hide the fact that it is a 305! :P

For those of you who don't know, the 305 is universally regarded as a poor attempt at a V8. The small 3.74" bore not only reduces displacement but limits the valve size that can be fit into the head due to the necessarily smaller combustion chamber. In 1967, when GM was looking to go Trans-Am racing with the aforementioned Z/28, they needed an engine with 5.0 liters displacement. They could have taken the 307 which was under development at the time and featured a small 3.875" (still larger than the later 305) but instead took a 327 CID with the 4" bore and added the 3" stroke crank from the 1957 283 CID V8 to create a 302. So almost 10 years before its introduction, GM knew that the 305 wasn't a real V8!

Jim is a good sport about this stuff and takes it all well. And FWIW, he could easily get 400 CID under that hood and have it look absolutely stock. While perhaps not the best of the breed, the 305 is still a small block Chevy.
