Made it though without much hassle. I asked the cop right after the bridge what was going on so I had plenty of time to find my registration.

Once I finally got to where they were asking for stuff it I had it ready. I asked if they were looking for someone in particular. He said no. They have to do this once a quarter to qualify for state assistance.

Your tax dollars at work.

I know one THSCCer that got bagged for no inspection.

I got caught up in the traffic. When I finally got to the traffic officer he only asked for my license. He then checked the inspection sticker and the tag on the truck. After that, he waived me on my way.

I guess I need to go get my trailer inspected now though. ?? I also need to get my z06 inspected, it is registered in NC, but still has no inspection sticker. I thought for sure I was going to be cited for that.

Oh, and thanks Mike for trying to call, but Nextel service in Southern NC SUCKS! :)

FWIW, I was told by someone (maybe the trailer manufacturer) that a safety inspection is only required for any trailer which "obscures the brake lights of the vehicle towing it". So enclosed = needs inspection, open = does not. Theoretically.

According to the inspection book, NC requires safety inspections on all trailers over 4500 gvwr. I can have more detail on whats required for trailers if anyone's intrested when i get home from work.

Jamie, I for one would be very interested in seeing this information. Please post what you have. Also, if trailers have to be inspected, where do you go (the same places you get NC inspection on your car?)?

Trailer inspections can be done at NC Inspection stations. The rub is that most of them do not have the trailer/motorcycle stickers.

Anyone run into problems leaving Wagram? It is 35 in town and if you head north on Hill Creek Rd toward 501, it changes to a 55 after you leave the city limits. This is a long straight and it is easy to want to get up to speed before you leave town. There was an officer hidden near the city limits catching people just before the 55. The car directly behind me was pulled over as I left town.

The book you get when you goto inspection class at wake tech.

NCDOT DMV Enforcement Section, Safety Inspection, Emissions Inspection, Windshield Certificate replacement, Regulations Handbook

Page 71

Additional Lightin Requirements
Section 4.
On every trailer or semi trailer having a gross weight in excess of 4,000 pounds:
(a) On the front, two clearance lamps, one at each side.
(b) On each side, two maker lamps, one at or near the front and one at or near the rear
(c) On each side, two reflectors, one at or near the front and at or near the rear
(d) on the rear, two clearance lamps, one at each side; Also two relectors, one at each side, and one stop lamp

Section 6.
On every trailer, semi trailer or pole trailer weighing 4,000 pounds gross or less:
(a) On the rear, two reflectors, one on each side. If any trailer or semi trailer is so loaded or is of such dimensions as to obscure the stop light on the towing vehicle, then such vehicle shall also be equipped with one stop lamp.
(b) Front clearing lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vhicle shall display or reflect and amber in color.
(c) rear clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.

As I look through the book again I cant pinpoint where it says trailers over 4500 gvwr needs to be inspected. It says trailers need to be inspected but doesn't give the weight cutout. The section on lighting makes it seem like, if it comes with lighting, a safety inspection is required to make sure it operates if over a certian weight. The only absolute answer I can give you is call the dmv, which is never fun. Lettme look through some other books.

edit: as George Bright said, anywhere that does inspections can do it, they just need that sticker. A motorcycle shop or trailer store is the best bet (same sticker).

I saw a few troopers in Wagram but they did not bother me....However I was cited for expired registration on the Dodge (by 20 days) at the traffic stop. While pulled over there I saw 3 DWI's, I guess it was Steve right in front of me with the trailer issue and one guy frisked and the K-9 searching the car. Last year for the event in Laurinburg I was pulled in Southern Pines for the same thing and even thought about it on the way to the event that morning. I thought I remember the DOT mailing something like a registration notice but I guess they dont do that anymore...or I could be thinking of something else. I am just glad I didnt have the DSM out there, I'd be in jail.

I posted in the tech thread however if anybody else got some kind of registration or inspection issue..................you have to wait until within one week of the court date and fax a copy of the ticket and the new inspection/registration reciept/card to the Moore County DA's office at (910)-947-6218. Give them about 10 minutes and call (910)-947-1784 to make sure it went through. After that, everything should be dropped with no fines or costs.

I don't understand why everyone goes through Wagram. I quit a long time ago...I basically go east out of the site straight over to 15/501 and head north from there. Wagram cuts the corner off a *little* bit, but any advantage gained by that is more than eaten up by all those stops and turns getting through there (and potential for speed traps, it appears).

Sorry I don't have better directions...I use a GPS and just let it tell me how to go, and it seems to prefer that way, too. It's pretty easy to see what I mean on a map, though.

(Yes, I realize this wouldn't have helped with the traffic stop...but someone mentioned Wagram and I figured I'd post about that.)

i turn left out of the golden knights entrance, turn right @ the sign that says scotland county correction center. cross over wagram road & continue until wire road (or old wire or something) T intersection. left on old wire until 15-501. right to So. Pines. seems longer but it is deserted usually. i have been @ the BP in Aberdeen pummping diesel fuel and have seen cars pass that were behind me when i left the site. they had turned left onto wagram road.

Did everyone make it through the traffic stop okay?

Nope... I got nailed. I hand the officer the registration thinking "man that's a cool plastic registration case my State Farm agent send me". Then I hear,"Sir, your registration expired in January". Then the flashlight instantaniously zooms toward my inspection sticker and hear,"And you inspection is overdue. It expired in February". So I ask, "Is there a grace period"? Hell, I've never been reprimanded for such trivialities before. I've never had so much as a speeding ticket. Anyhow, the reply of course was "no". Damnit!!

I totally was unaware of the two infractions. I was just worried about getting fresh brake fluid and 710's before Laurinburg in time. The irony.

Anyhow, is it worth it to just send in the ticket for $135 or show up in court ( in Carthage) to make sure no crap shows up on record?
