March 17-19 is Scottish Heritage Weekend at Laurinburg! :D So if you see a bunch of guys walking around the hotel in plaid skirts, you'll know why.

(Christine went to VA this week and picked up one of those 2006 Calendar of Events booklets from the NC Welcome Center)

Yeah we seem to hit the same schedule with them. At least the past 3 years. They have the Highland Games going on. Kind of like the Scottish Olympics. With the events being all their cultural ones.

Your family's tartan is a white background with a little red x? That's a new one.

I *think* this is my family's McDonald tartan
http://www.scotsconnection.com/uploads/ ... _553_1.htm I guess I lost interest in clan lore and Scottish culture when I read that many Scots who came to the Americas did so because their clan lords forced them off the land in order to convert the farmland over to grazing lands for sheep. I don't know if that was why my ancestors came over here. Family legend says that Not much to get sentimental about.

Dang.. clicked submit in mid-revision... Family history says that the first one of my McDonald ancestors to move over from Scotland was a ships captain before he moved to Buies Creek in 1813 or so.

Please people, understand there is a big difference between the Irish and Scots! No offense, but a no Irish man would be caught in a skirt. :)

http://www.clanmacrae.org/ I could not get it to link the pics of my families' tartan. I looked online and kilts run $300-500. Thats an expensive skirt.
