there are several for sale in the high 20s right now (he has a line on one for $27.5k). Plus, the guy with the money told me today that we could go over the budget if needed. $40k I guess was a starting point.

We are looking at putting the car on a very strict diet, getting some big rubber (largest possible, 285s?), adding more power and of course the safety equipment.

Plus a heck of a lot of track time over the next year.

I don't understand why Shultz didn't suggest this, but you should consider building up a 1972 Lincoln Mark IV. With wide whitewalls and a period V-shaped TV antenna on the trunk, I guarantee you a photo in Car & Driver. Isn't that what you're really after?

On the mechanical side, you can swap out that tired 460 for a nice new Ford Racing 514 "Cobra Special" crate motor
