For those not in the loop, my Contour SVT decided to vomit a wristpin in the #6 cylinder a couple of months ago. Interestingly enough, these engines are known to implode at around 80K, mine was a little too eager. Something about oiling issues in the higher compression SVT application. Nice.

Which brings me to this: There are many known engine swaps in the world of cars. RX-7's with V8s, Honduhs with higher output Honduh engines, etc etc etc. In the (scary) Contour world, one easily finds out that the 2.5L engine that came in it is an underbore Taurus/Sable/Jaguar X-type/Escape/Fusion/Mazda Tribute/et cetera 3.0L Duratec. So, back in December, I embarked on swapping a 2004 Escape engine into her, using ported and polished Taurus heads and the remainder coming from my "donor car" including the hot cams. I was actually surprised how well everything went together; I only had to grind four things down or off.

I finally got a chance to button everything up and take her for a drive tonight, and holy crap is this thing tight. The exhaust note has gone from Barry Manilow to Barry White (Precats? Who needs precats?) and the torque is simply amazing.

Oh yeah, she'll be at the meeting next Wednesday if you want to see the hawtness.

Please post your intended route to the meeting so we can avoid the trail of spare parts and vital engine fluids.

4wd is only hackish if I had a turbo, three limited slips and a computer distributing teh torque.

Some cars allow you to dial out the hack by giving you the option to manually adjust the front/rear splits.

You, have just coined a phrase.
"I had an AWD, but now that I have a Miata, I have to dial out the hack!"
You could also use the antonym, to dial in the hack.
"I here the diffs in the newest EVO are so sophisticated that they really allow you to dial in the hack!"

The only trail of parts falling off this thing would be some rubber from the tires... This thing moves pretty good.

Bummer!

Was this from the old 2.5 ltr or the "new" 3.0 ltr? I thought the 3.0 ltr engines were supposed to be better at this.

Friggin German engineering. Are VW cooling systems overredundant and complex too?
