I'm looking at different axle options for a trailer that I have. I'd like to find a travel trailer that's been wrecked or has fire damage in hopes of salvaging the axles, brakes, and wheels. Anyone know of a salvage yard that deals with travel trailers (or possibly other types of trailers)?

I've looked at this hardware at Agri(vation) Supply and Northern Tool, but when you put all the pieces together, it's way more than I'm looking to spend.

SouthAg in Wendell builds a variety of trailers on site and sells new parts. They have stacks of 5000 # axles with and without brakes in the yard. Might be worth asking for a price.

You might check with http://www.dexteraxle.com/

I bought a complete new custom length axle a few years ago for my race car trailer. Price was surprisingly low considering that it included everything other than wheels. I had electric brakes, drop stub axles, bearings, hubs, and maybe even new u-bolts. Mine is a 3500 lb single axle. As I recall it came UPS (I did NOT have to pick it up).

There is probably no need to "make do" with whatever you can find at various local sources if you can find EXACTLY what you need directly from Dexter.

Dexter is good about spare parts also. The website HAS lots of pictures to help id what you have since there are LOTS of different axles and styles. http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1080235/f/Appl_Manual_4-04.pdf

Also, try getting a parts and accessories catalog from one of the big RV and travel trailer dealers. These frequently have a lot of axle and brake related stuff, including illustrations.

FYI my understanding is that you do NOT want take off mobil home delivery axles!!!!

Thanks guys....but I've looked at Dexteraxles and SouthAg as well and buying it new is way more than I'm looking to spend ($800 to $900 for two axles with brakes, tires, and wheels). I found a RV salvage yard in Liberty NC, but they currently don't have any used axles. They told me to check back in two weeks.

FEMA bought a couple of thousand travel trailers back in 2000 for the flood victims of hurricane Floyd. Several of these trailers have been ragged out, and the axles have under 500 miles on them. I'm just trying to find out where some of these trailers have ended up and how I can get my hands on the axles.

Rob, what's the name of the salvage yard you found? New steps for the bus are pricey. It may be a good move to try to find some used ones. Send the name when you can so I can call about some used steps.

Thanks Rob....
