If any of you out there have been considering adding another furrier family member, please please please take a look at the animals at the Animal Protection Society of Durham. There are many beautiful loving pets there ready to be held and petted by their new found family members.
I met two of the dogs yesterday at the Petsmart while I was there speaking to one of their volunteers about another dog. Christina and Nora were there and both dogs were sweet and gentle and beautiful. One customer in the store had their about two year old little boy there and Nora was very patient and careful with him while he touched her nose and petted her (after being assured it was OK of course). Christina was a happy girl excited about a chewy that she received and very playful and friendly.
There are many others. Some were found neglected, starved, shot and other things. All are being cared for and treated for their injuries or just simply shown love and being fed regularly like they should have been treated their whole lives. There are puppies who were either found alone or whose mother was found alone and unprotected. Four beagle mix puppies were there yesterday, whose Mom had been found on the side of the road, pregnant and alone. One was awake and curious being held by a volunteer, the other three were peacefully sound asleep in their crate on a nice warm blanket.
On the website (apsofdurham.org) there are pictures of the dogs, cats and other animals waiting for adoption...including a bird and a couple of rabbits too. And don't forget to look at the older animals in need of a home too. It's especially important for them to have a kind family or new parent to give them warmth and love for the rest of their life. For instance there's a pretty beagle named Becky whose about six years old in need of love.
We're looking into adopting Winky whose picture is there. She is a llasa apso mix who was found matted and mistreated and has been nursed back to health. She was so matted that she lost sight in one eye because the matt grew into her eye!I just found out that someone else has applied for her too, we'll see what happens, we just want her to have a good home.
I'm going to speak with our clients whom I know love animals too and see if I can help find homes for some. If you know others that you work with or friends who might be interested, please tell them about these animals. Other areas have APS too as well with many sweet animals waiting for homes.
Again, if you've even slightly thought about adding another member to your family, please take a look at these wonderful animals. Thanks.
