SO,
my dad finally got around to transferring the tittle on the ALL TERRIAN ACCLAIM to me. It really doesnt cost me anything to insure it b/c of the multi-car discount. However, we dont think it will ever pass inspection again and the title plus plate fees can add up. Kevin has graciously allowed us to keep it at the Subaru Farm :D . So my question is....do I need to pay that $40 fee to get the title transferred to me? If I do will I need to pay that 3% highway tax at the end of the year? Is it ok to just leave it in my dads name and not register it, then the DMV doesnt know it exists right?

If it's OK with your dad, then there's no problem (provided you don't intend to drive it on a public road).

That has never been the case for my multi-car policies. The only way tht it would not cost you anything would be if Dad was still picking up the tab. An extra vehicle always involves and extra cost. Even if you have more vehicles than drivers.
The only thing that your dad will need to do is: When it is time to pay property tax on the vehicle, he will need to send in the invoice stating that he no longer has the vehicle. Should you ever want to title the car again, someone would have to pay the property tax due on it.
One question will arise: How do you get the car from Kevins to Bret's for rally-x at the two different sites? It is a secrete how we get the intitled DirtMaster between the sites.

it is literally 80 cents per six months to add the acclaim to my insurance...i didnt believe it either. I just told them it was for emergencies only. I think i put that it would only have 500 miles per year. As far as driving site to site, welllll

Yeah, just make sure you don't lose that title. Since it's your dad it's a bit easier since he could get a replacement title issued, but that's like $30.

For what it's worth, I never transferred the title of the parts Acclaim that I used for the Reliant and my other Acclaim to me, and I shipped it off to the junkyard that way.

Yeah, oddly my insurance actually _dropped_ by about $40/yr when I added the 944 a few years back. I had to ask the agent several times to make sure they weren't making a mistake. The 944 was liability only where the WRX was FULL coverage. Maybe that is what changed things.
