i currently have an 8000 and have been trying to upgrade to an 8300 for like 7 months now. primarily because the 8300 has hdmi output , but also for many of the above reasons.

according to TW, you just can't pick up a dvd box. they just wont allow it. they also said they just can't upgrade me for kicks. there has to be a reason.. ive called and made up all sorts of reasons/problems, etc but they seem reluctant to do anything.. the magazine 'trick' is tempting

Wooops.... missed the fact that the 8000 was an HD unit.

I would just call saying you are having problems with it, and they will hook you up with a new one, or just bring it in for 'replacement'.

Rinse, wash, repeat until 8300 :D

Call back and talk to a different person until they let you change boxes. A friend of mine at work happened to be talking to one of their installers right when they got the 8300's in about 2 months ago. We both called up that week and just asked to have our old boxes traded out for the new ones. No questions asked. They said they had to have their guy bring it to the house, but that's no big deal. They even come on Saturdays now, and they have evening appointment slots from 5-7pm (and I think 7-9) if you want. The small service fee is worth it to me to not have to jackass all the way over to Club blvd on the other side of Durham and wait in line.

Guys - just call and tell them that you want to *add* a box to your house. Insist on the 8300HD. Either send the old one back with the tech, or drop the old one off at the retail locations.

That's what I'm doing.

They told my wife the same thing, so I stopped by on my way home from work one day, picked up my DVR box and cancelled the appointment. From what I've been told, the call center isn't anywhere near NC. Probably in India somewhere. They can only tell you what shows up on their computer monitor.

You can never pick up anything at southpoint they are just a retail booth, I have always had to go to thier Chapel Hill office to pick up anything.

We are closest to the Atlantic Ave office and have never had any trouble there. Maybe the people that work there don't care enough to tell you to go away! :whoknows:
