For those like myself who haven't seen the "new" Miata pictures. I stumbled across this a few moments ago:

The same joker who changed the OPG in '95 must have designed the dual exhaust.

Couldn't you say the same for the S2000? This is nothing new in this market. - AB

And the SRT-4. Just because they aren't the first being stupid, doesn't mean it isn't stupid.

Given the apparent improvements with minimal weight creep of the new Miata, any "marketing trick" that helps sell a really neat car is ok with me!

Edit to add: My 69 Mustang (and maybe later Camaros and Firebirds I think) had a V8 with dual exhausts from the engine until the two pipes got to the SINGLE muffler which then had two tail pipes exiting from it. I guess I'm used to this sort of marketing/styling ploy. :D

besides styling, it allows more outlet area without looking like a "fartcan".

According to Autoweek, Mazda worked on moving weight towards the center of the car and lowering the center of gravity. The battery is now under the hood (at the firewall, I think), and the engine is moved 5" back. Gas tank moved 4" forward and lower. New rear suspension. There will be a "club spec" edition with no A/C.

What they didn't do is make the interior larger. No more headroom, the footwells are more cramped due to the engine relocation, and the driver and passenger seats are about an inch closer together.

The net is that I'll be happy to scrunch down and co-drive one of these occasionally :)

Overall, I'm glad to see they haven't ruined it...

But ACK! clear tails and those stupid relatively useless "roll hoops"? What's up with that?!?!?!?

Yeah...that's a major problem. Considering the way the roof works and the roll hoops, I don't see any way to add real rollover protection without fairly major surgery.
