Anyone know of a local source for some high quality stainless steel sheet metal, I need to create a heat shield. Also need a fairly large peice of expanded metal sheet.

Thanks.

There's a scrap yard off Geer street near Junction in Durham that has quite a lot of SS. It's the second one down the street. The one on the corner has some SS as well as other metals, but the smaller place seems to specialize in SS. If you know the dimensions you need, you would be well advised to have them shear it for you, SS is quite hard thus difficult to cut. If you have to cut it yourself, use an abrasive cut off wheel on an angle grinder, you'll just destroy any hand metal shears. Use Titanium coated (gold color) drill bits with slow speed and continuous water cooling for drilling. PS: SS is a poor heat conductor so it will protect anything on the cool side, but will not aid in cooling. Aluminum is a better heat shield for that use.

Expanded steel - plenty of choices at Dillon supply in 4x8 sheets. That's where we sourced it for the club trailer shelves.
