Were any older members (cough cough Charlie) at this event. I went with my dad. Dad worked T&S if I remember correctly.

I was a Caifornian at that time, doing Laguna Seca.

I wasn't there either Donnie. I turned 4 in November that year so I was only 3 when the old farts were racing there!!

Dang, you're right. I didn't turn two until November, so I was really only one. ;)

What a bunch of kids. :D

Lets see, in Spring 1974 I had just started what was to become a 29 year career after graduating from college after spending 4 years in the Army (including one year in Vietnam), had replaced my 69 Mustang 351 with a Vega (BAD mistake) due to a gas crisis, and as it turned out was a few months from trading the Vega in on a Datsun 260Z after attending a Bob Bondurant school at Sears Point. Thanks to the Z I became a serious autocrosser.

Dick (obviously "older")

I am not at young as the rest, but at least I REMEMBER 1974. I was in second grade and my "motorsports" consisted of riding my bike on dirt roads. My dad was also burnt on a Vega. That was the last new car he purchased until just last year.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Ahhh, The Vega. My parents had one also. First it was STOLEN (sad theif) from in front of our appartment (They got it back for us. Wish they didn't.), then the engine melted in the library parking lot. What a piece of crap that car was.

Hmmm, I have a chance to pick up a Cosworth Vega. I just need to find the garage space. Might make an interesting track car.

Jim,

Not a good idea from what I've observed over the years. The car itself is crap and even the Cosworth version of the engine isn't "desireable/reliable" from what I've heard (I could be wrong on the engine). Who knows what brakes would be available and what tires/wheels.

If you want an old design car for a track car a 1994/95 Mustang V-8 (the last of the pushrod 5.0's) would be a better choice. :D Lots of parts including better brakes for minimal (relatively speaking) dollars. This assumes that you want something other than a Miata.
