This is probably a lost cause because the car has probably already been parted, cutup, or in a container somewhere but if anyone sees this car or hears of one like it for sale please let me know so I can relay the info to the owner. His name is Dave Nichols and I belive his shop is in western NC somewhere. I'll clarifly that when I find out.

Its a BMW e12 (1975-81) not sure on original model but its pretty much fully race prepped and has a fully built M30 engine in it. Just wanted to help get the info out. The car was stolen from behind the guy's shop. He was parked next to me at 5er Fest on memorial day weekend (thats my car sticking out on the left)

What a shame.. I've seen pictures of that car scattered on the 5er forums.. looked like a pretty serious piece of machinery. When did it get gone?

" The car was in the equipment lot at his workplace (sounded like it was locked, didn't say specifically) and on his trailer. They took the whole thing--makes me wonder if they wanted the trailer more than anything. This happened Thursday night, so a few days have already gone by without any news."

from someone who emailed dave.. looks like it was thursday night (16th). it was a really nice car.. it got the fastest time of the day at the autocross at 5erfest driven not by the owner but by a pretty experienced track driver who happened to just graduate high school..

Damn, Weiner Dog is a friend and former instructor of mine. Good guy. Hate to see the big dog lost. He put a lot of work into that car.

Good news!

July 2nd;
"So we're at VIR this weekend for a Tarheel BMW DE, Dave's phone rings as he's going out on track, but he ignores it. After he's gone, Bob Shield's phone rings. It's Dave's wife--the cops found the BIG DOG in Mooresville, NC. It is apparently still on the trailer. We're hoping this means they haven't done anything with it, but we'll see. Hopefully Dave and the car will be back at the track again tomorrow."

July 3rd;
" The BIG DOG was at the track today, but not running--only to show that it's back in the right hands. The front bumper and spoiler are gone, as are the grills, side moldings, C-pillar grills/trim, guages, radiator, Heidi (the dachsund from the rear parcel shelf) and the Big Dog license plate! They also backed the left rear corner into something, breaking that tail light and crunching the sheetmetal around the hole a little. The sheet metal below the rear bumper and on the front valence had some primer sprayed on it for some reason (the car had JUST been painted). All the driveline is there, wheels and the shot tires he had on it. He says he has an extra set of guages and it shouldn't be too hard to find all the trim stuff he needs."

Unexpected and (mostly) happy ending.
