I enjoyed Mike's thread on all the cars we have owned/driven. I was struck by the complete lack of commitment. It appears people hardly get to know these cars and they are off to the next one. To me, cars are a long term commitment - till death do you part. I think it would be fun to hear how long you have owned/driven a particular car. Kudos to whoever holds the record.

Here's mine that exceed 10yrs:

94 Pontiac Grandam - 11yrs and counting
86 Ford Escort - 12yrs
67 Pontiac Firebird - 25yrs and counting (paid $300, invested thousands)

Kelly still has the 1973 Lotus Europa she bought new in 1973. Not in running condition unfortunately due to Hurricane Fran and a really big willow oak :(

We still drive our 1984 Datsun 200SX we bought new in January 1984.

We've had the Van Diemen formula ford since 1991 and the Dodge Coachmen camper van since 1992.

Other cars are "new" . . . 97 and 01 Mustangs.

Dick and Kelly (we KEEP our cars awhile  ) Rasmussen

It's definitely *not* a heap :refuse: 8) , but, until we picked up the Mini in Jan, my daily driver was my '82 Toyota Celica GT (aka "the plastic plant")--that I bought new. I took it out last weekend and, even after sitting for most of 4 months, after a jump, it ran just fine! That car is, without a doubt, one of the best ever put on the road! It really needs a new loving home now, but I haven't been able to bring myself to part with it yet. :)

Vehicles ever owned by me:

1st: 1995 Chebby S10 ext cab 4x4. Still running with an indicated 130000+ miles. I say indicated because it came with 205-75-15s but @ 40k I upsized to 235-75-15 and didn't bother re-calibrating the instrument panel. Now the kayak and mulch hauler.

2nd: 1999 Jetta IV GLS. Now the wife's daily driver w/ 100000 and counting.

3rd: 1990 Miata. Currently my daily driver and a very slo STS2 build-up. Bought from original owner w 63706 miles in May last year, now has 78000+ and counting.

1 and 2 were bought new. Before then I drove various loaners from the folks.

1966 Corvair - owned since 1969 - converted to mid-engine V-8 1975.

Bowie Gray may claim record with his 1964 MG that started THSCC.

We don't have enough WEB space for me to just list the vehicles I own now let alone the others I've had!! Lets see.

1991 Eagle Talon bought, I think, in 1993. Still have it.

1962 MGA Mk2 (its not a fast car so lets make the name really long!) Owned since 1973 or 4. Some day it will get the nice clean red 1960 or so MGA body I have for it.

Owned and sold:

1974 Camaro
1972 Dodge Truck (foundly called the rolling hedge....ask if you want details!)
1985 Audi Quattro (The old SS Audi)
1990 Miata. Swapped to Bowie for the white 89 Honda si that donated parts to the track Civic.

Others still owned:

89 Civic (the track car)
1987 Ford Crown Vic (the old tow vehicle thats still for sale!)
1985 Suburban (454 big block). Its also for sale
CRX shell that will turn into the track car before Rockingham in November
1996 Camry. The work car
1996 Dodge Diesel pickup. The new tow vehicle
1981 Suburban. Enough said about it!

Other vehicles owned....and I challenge anyone to match these

Massey Ferguson diesel tractor with back hoe and front loader
Cletrack bull dozer (have no idea what year but think mid 50s)
1963 Ford Super Major (or, Ford 5000) Diesel tractor (my most recent addition).

Motorcycles:

1982 Honda Magna V45
1962 Honda Dream (a small but classic bike)

I think that might be it!

Ron

I wonder if we could narrow the thread down to only include cars that have moved under their own power in the last five years. That would knock out a few of the claims made here.

However, if that's not possible, I'd like to list all of my old Hot Wheels. I stumbled across my old Hot Wheels carrying case in my parent's attic last week. I thought Mom had thrown it out 25 years ago... After careful consideration, I think the coolest surviving car is my 1968 TwinMill: http://www.animedavesworld.com/hwredtwinmill.jpg (Mine is green)

Dad's car is actually a 1963 MGB, delivered in October of 1962. 270,000+ miles on the original motor. _3 main bearing crank_ has never been out of the block.

Ask him sometime about nearly falling off the Chimney Rock Hillclimb road trying to see how much faster he could make it down than up... I was nearly never born! (bummer huh?)

Bowie, Jr.

Either that or assuming Mom is my mom, she was in the car with him! You and I both know that no one in their right (or wrong) minds would have adopted me, so they must be my real parents!

Bowie....

Switched at birth. Perhaps on purpose.

Will be good to see you at The Rock. Should be fun.
