Preface:
Late July I towed up to Maine for the Maine Forest Rally. Rally cars, as you know, have the driver (me) and codriver (Amy Feistel) names on the sides. We took a route that mostly went up I-95.
I received this email today:

Title: Was your Subaru in New York this summer??
Hello Mr. Green,
My name is Eric Schwartz, and I have an unusual question: did I see your car being trailered up the New York State Thruway (west of the Tappan Zee Bridge) sometime this summer?
My wife and I were in the middle of an intense discussion about what to name our first child (she's due November 15) when we passed a race car being trailered up the Thruway. My wife looked over and blurted out, "How about Amy?", seeing the name on the side of the race car next to us. Then and there, we decided (if it's a girl) that her name will be Amy.
Of course, now we're desperate to know WHOSE car it was that we saw! Any chance it was yours?
I'd appreciate a response...and thanks!
Best regards, and happy rallying!
Eric Schwartz

My response:
Hi Eric,
Holy cow!!
Yup, we took that route on our way from North Carolina up to
the Maine Forest Rally, a race that was taking place in Rumford,
Maine, near the Sunday River Ski Resort. It was probably July 30th.
Here's a picture of our car and tow van that you probably saw.
It was taken the morning we left for Maine:

In rally, the names are on both sides of the car. On each side,
the name on the top is the name of the person sitting on that
side. All rally cars are always raced with a driver and navigator,
as you aren't allowed to "pre-check" the roads.
Here's a good shot of Amy with her helmet on:

All the racing is done on gravel roads, and so here is a typical
picture of the car underway:

As far as racing goes, Subarus have a history of rally racing, and aren't often seen
in other types of racing like track or oval racing. And the US rally community is pretty
tight. There are few women competing, and no other "Amy"s on the East Coast. Plus,
there were few rallies in the NE this year. Put all of that together, and I'd say there's about
a zero percent chance you saw some _other_ car with Amy's name on the side!
You can read some of the stories that Amy has written in the stories section, and if
you poke around you'll find some more pictures of her as well. Sign the guestbook,
it's an amazing story!
Congratulations on your baby!!!
Cheers,
Anders

Next I fully expect women to start throwing their undergarments at me as I walk by.....
You never know what the internet is going to wash up on your shore!!
