I'm thinking out loud a bit. It should only take a minute.

Anybody know of some place where you could store a car? Preferably a garage situation.

Do those self storage places let you put a car in the bigger units?

Toying with the idea of a daily driver other than the Miata. But don't want to deal with the driveway logistics. (Things work out really well for two cars more than that and we'll need fleet management software.)

Parking in the yard, while it wouldn't hurt the grass much, is not going to be an option.

Thanks for your time.

Maybe an ITR in DS.

I don't think they care what you put in there, so long as it doesn't blow the place up. That said, the larger units, at least in the Morrisville area, seem to go for >$100/mo. I can do the "car shuffle" a whole lot before I justify that kind of dough. Of course, that's coming from a guy who's looking at doubling his mortgage payment so he has more driveway and garage space, so take it for what it's worth.

Hey - that sounds familiar!

Worth every penny. I can do donuts in my driveway in the Miata :)

I just expanded my drive way. If you have enough room to park on the grass, consider expanding the drive way. For the price of a $100 storage unit, you will pay off the expansion in a year or so.

You can probably get the cost back from the sale of the house. Plus you will save time and energy not having to drive back and forth to a storage unit....

When I stored the Suprang at the facility on Chapel Hill rd between the fairgrounds and State Surplus, they asked me to drain the gas tank and remove the battery. Since I got the car in baskets and crates, that wasn't a problem.

since expanding the driveway is not terribly cheap, why not clear an area of the grass adjacent to the driveway and lay down gravel? Cheaper and should hold up just as good right?

Thats one of my storage units here in Charlotte; Budget self-storage. Pretty reasonable place, and well-kept (cept for my units.) Just wish it had power..

One word of advise if you're looking at a storage unit; lowball! Most self-storage places don't have prices set in stone, though they'd lead you to believe they were. All I had to do was mention a competitors price, and the manager cut me a deal on the spot.

Patrick,

Concrete is expensive .... When I did my driveway extension I started with a 3-4" base of "crush and run" gravel. Crush and run is cheap and is a good mix of gravel and dust so it sets up pretty hard after a few rains (especially is you tamp it). A couple of months later I poured concrete over it, but the crush and run is very suitable by itself.

i don't know about NC but i stored a car in a storage place in FL and the moisture (humidity) was a problem. if you don't get a humidity controlled space you do a lot of damage to the car.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not in immediate need, but. . . well. . . it's pretty inevitable at this point.

Plenty of food for thought.

Adam, if that place had power you'd never leave it.
