Two words: RENTAL FLEETS. When you are selling a car on very slim margins to volume accounts, using an engine for which all R&D, tooling and other overhead has been amortized in a previous decade makes a lot of sense.

i remember when diesel fuel was cheaper than regular. my tank costs me more to run than "W" 's do apparently.
