Are any of you having an unusual number of game lock-ups when using GT-4? We've had the game for two weeks and it seems to lock up every time we fire it up. We get a shift failure that sometimes jumps a shift up or down while racing. And sometimes the machine completely locks when in the main menu.
The shift problem rarely occurs in Colin McRae Rally 3, and never causes a lock up. Dear ol' dad is trying to avoid the prospect of swapping parts to trouble shoot this. He never gets a chance to play. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Charlie, have you got an older PS2? A guy I work with reported problems with the older games reading double layer DVDs like GT4.

The only "lock ups" that I have heard of are people with the old PS2s. This was a common problem at my local EBgames as there were three people back on release night trading in their PS2s for new ones as theirs had generalized read issues as well.

Since GT4 is on a dual layer DVD-6 format (I think), that is the *first* read type that goes with the old PS2s. Even with CD/DVD head cleaners, some PS2s would fail after use, and were not very robust.

I will see if I can post links later showing you the other common failures tht people are having with read issues, but rest assured that if you are having read issues, and you have a 'close to 1st Gen PS2', you are not alone. The only solution is a new/refurbished PS2.

This is only too evident if you stick in 'other' games and have no read issues, but if you put in a DVD formatted game, you will have MAJOR issues with reading the disc.

Our thanks to the correspondents who replied. Turned out we owned one of the very earliest PS2's. When Pete brought home the new one I was astounded that they had shrunk the size by about 75%. The new game works WAY better. I was impressed that EB gave a $75 trade in on the old game since it was still operational (but for how long?).

Yea, once I bought mine, I thought that it was a credit card. I was astounded how small it was... and now it already has an RJ45 NIC adapter built in for LAN sessions!!!

Ok, Enthusia? Thoughts, gripes, anyone got it yet? Anyone with both X-Box and PS2 compare it with Forza yet? I'm curious as to how that one is since the concept to Forza is similar. :D
