Funny. I've been getting ready for this season by playing only Burnout 3: Takedown.

It's going to be a fun season.

I was on the impression that GT4 was coming out only tomorrow. Will stop after work to see if I can find one. The timing is just good, I finish up TOCA Race Driver 2 last night 100% in simulation and career mode.
It's a good game the 2 championships I like the most in it is the DTM and the V8 Supercars. The Hockenheim track is pretty close to the real track. The stadium section is faster in the game, the corner are not as tight as on the real track. The rest of the track is pretty realistic. What I want to
see in GT4 is the Nurburgring how it compare to the real thing. The real thing is really amazing.
Curious to know how many of you had reach 100% like me in GT3?

ME ME ME!! :D

I only estimate that it took me a couple of years to complete it although I didn't play it the entire time.

I played for about 5 hours last night and now have 2.8% complete.

I figure that puts me about 191 hours from finishing

Forza. They actually pushed the release back until early May. It looks awesome. I have a hard time believing it will surpass GT4 though. However that won't stop me from buying it as well.

There was a pre-release version on a demo disc (Xbox magazine) of Forza a few months back. I played it a few times with all of the "driver aids" turned off. And I was pleasantly surprised as to how hard it was to drive an ALMS Audi prototype! It should have been hard and it was, so I have hope for this game. It did seem much more realistic than something like Project Gotham Racing 2 (PGR2). Like comments I have seen on GT4, you can’t go crazy with braking and turning at the same time, must be smooth, etc. In Forza you really had to be careful with the throttle at lower speeds as well as the brakes because you could either lock it up or break it loose pretty easy. The demo looked generally finished, but I think it probably was good to wait until GT4 had been releases just in case they needed to rework any features. Or maybe they had seen enough pre-release GT4 info that they decided they needed to rework parts of it.

There is absolutely no reason that someone can’t make a driving game as good (looks and game play) as Polyphony Digital does with the GT series (especially on the Xbox). It is just time, money and the commitment to do it right. The killer thing that Xbox games like Forza may have over GT4 (or pretty much any PS2 game at this point) is Xbox Live. Frankly I can’t imagine playing just against AI anymore. It is just not anywhere close to the level of fun of real people. Anyhow, time will tell if Forza can live up to the hype.

Another good Xbox racing game is TOCA Race Driver 2. Not quite as “Arcade” as PGR2. Still, I love and continue to play PGR2. It is not GT3/4 and it is not supposed to be either. In addition to the Xbox (main game machine), I have a GameCube and PS2 as well, but these are mostly for the kids. I may have to think about getting GT4, but I may just wait for Forza and maybe pick up GT4 after the price drops. If only Sony didn’t have an exclusive agreement with Polyphony Digital (did Sony buy them as well?) we could see this game on the Xbox.

I've played that demo as well, and was PLEASANTLY surprised at the realism in the control characteristics that Forza had. I'm a bit disappointed they moved it to May, but hopefully will be worth the wait.

FYI, there's a fairly decent writeup that gave Forza better reviews than I expected it to get as compared to GT4

I played Forza at Best Buy last weekend, we were in a hurry so I didnt get to play it much. Graphics were AWESOME! Game play was difficult since all I have been playing PGR2 and that is far from realistic.

Xbox live is the deal. Its sooooo much better to play against others. Cat and mouse in PGR2 keeps me occupied for hours.

Hehe. Cat and Mouse on Nurburgring. 8)

For those that don't know what "Cat and Mouse" is about. It is a game with little rules. Imagine everyone breaking up into teams of two. One driver picks a really fast car as the "Cat" (Ferrari Enzo, etc.) and the other picks a slower car as the "Mouse" (usually a Mini Cooper). The goal is the get your teams Mouse to win the race. Your teams Cat tries to wreck the opposing teams Mouse as well as push along your teams Mouse faster than it's natural top speed. If there is an odd number of players, the extra can be the "Shark" and pick a fast car and try to take out the lead mouse (act as a spoiler). It sounds crazy and it can be loads of fun!! Imagine doing this on something like the Nurburgring. It's better than figure eight racing with RVs!!

I created this thread if any THSCC members who have Xbox Live would like to hook up and play online...

Bought GT4 last night, just play arcade mode so far. The Nurburgring is very good, some corner I think are more open than I remember it. The graphic are awesome, the rumble strip made with brick is accurate. I remember going on it at the exit of a particular corner and I ended up doing the same last night. Try a few cars on it, the new BMW M5, an Alpine A110, a RUF RGT, the RUF give me my 1st win on the Nurburgring.
If you learn the track in the game, you will not be lost for sure if you drive it for real.
The force feedback on the steering wheel is too strong in my opinion, it's making me over correcting ( going in the ditch ). I try to adjust it but it didn't
seem to have any effect, need to search more on that. I try also Laguna Seca, Mid Field, and Swiss Alps again they improved the graphic a lots and they made some change on some corner also. I will need to start on simulation mode now. It's nice that we can import some licenses and 100,000 cr
from GT3, that will give a better start than the 10,000 cr they are giving. With 110,000 cr one should be able to buy some decent car.
We will see.

If it let's you import your previous cars and their setups then that would be nice. Otherwise I'll buy a new memory card so I don't loose my GT3 configuration. I have over $200K in my bankroll for parts :)

hi all, i had a intresting time right after i bought gt-4, it turns out my psx-2 had a dirty player, i ran a drive-clean cd in it, and works good now...
anyway, after i figured out it was my psx-2, and it quit cutting out on me,
i transferred the data from gt-3, and bought a diesel 120d bmw hatchback,
then fixed it up and raced it, 14 second timeslip in the 1/4 mile for a diesel...and won a bmw 2002 turbo.. and now it is very sideways and fast, i can powerslide around the hairpin turn on the backside of apricot hill... it drives like it is on gravell.. fun stuff.. on the other memory card i own a 1958 subaru 360.. it is modiefied right now to give 47 hp. it has a blower, pipey exhaust, intake horn, alot of stuff, and i recently won a ginetta g4 from 1964, it has 90 hp. much quiker than the sube i am sure, stock the subie has 11 hp. and has a hard time making it up the hills of the citta du aria track in italy.. but,, sofar it has been a fun game..
i actually won the lightweight k-car cup in my subie 360, with a top speed of 70 mph.. tells you something about the cars i'm racing against..
der nurburgring is cool too, very long as well.. 14 miles..
my favorite is to drive the pickup trucks around the rally courses yumps.. flying trucks.. until next time..

stay sideways..

I picked it up this weekend and tried it for a couple of hours last night. They changed the cars around. I was able to pull my money and licenses from GT3 into to it but not my cars. Bummer. I had one that I really liked and it doesn't exist in GT4.

The video does look better. There are more courses. You have to start last and can't qualify for a race. I liked that feature. I assume since I only have 1 memory card when I let it configure GT4 it blew away all my GT3 stuff. I'll load the GT3 disk next time and see if there is anything left.

You can qualify for the races during a series. You should have the option to practice in these races. What ever times you run during practice sets your position in the field. However the one and done races, all of the races in beginner, you have to start in the back of the field.

Hmm... well, GT4 is sorta a mixed bag for me.

First, I picked up GT4 and I had one of the EARLY first gen PS2s. Well, the PS2 promptly ate (and by 'ate', I mean it put track marks THROUGH to read side of the cd where the read head crashed) my first copy of GT4. One free copy, trade-in of my PS2 and a new PS2 the size of a credit card later, I am home ready to go for try #2.

Second, I had to unlearn ALL of the racing that I had done on XBOX Live and go back to the worst controllers on earth -- the PS2 controllers. Since I am waiting for Forza and its proprietary wheel to come out with 'force effects', I was hesitant to buy a 150 dollar wheel. However, after talking to 'The Hoppe', we discovered a USB to XBOX converter that would allow me to use the GT4 wheel (without 900-degrees of rotation) on the XBOX. This is a MAJOR plus as I hate paddle shift, but I love the sequential stick shift of the GT4 wheel + the GT4 wheel works with the PC (To be tested in the VERY near future once I get overnight parts from Japan) :). On NASIOC and 1-day later, I have a PS2 Logitec GT Force wheel for 90 bucks, plus the 20 dollar mail in rebate that Logitec is doing allows me to get the wheel for 70 bucks :D If you like, buy.com has the wheel for uber cheap as well

Logitec Rebate: http://www.logitech.com/lang/pdf/rebate ... _20-US.pdf

Third, using any wheel takes time. After finally getting the hang of it, I noticed there were three setting for the wheel in GT4: Amature, Professional, and Simulation. Due to the nature of me and AWD "hacked" driving, I went with the Amature or Simulation settings as they are the most 'fun' (of course removing all TCS and ASM settings from EVERY car). Something about Professional turns all the cars I drive into understeering pigs, even with +4 toe out in the rear, -3.0/0.0 camber splits and rear biased spring offsets.

Overall, I think that the AI on GT4 is rubbish. The Forza demo isnt much better as far as AI goes, but being STUCK with the AI and having NO online choice with GT4 is complete garbage. Any game, ESPECIALLY RACING GAMES, should all have some form of online support. The 'hacks' and GT4 servers I have played on are rubbish to as only 2 people can play with any amount of tolerable latency. Otherwise, LAN party it.. but you cant do that everyday.

So, I think GT4 is good for what it is -- an in-between game. I am going to be going Forza once it is released, and then everyone in STU will be safe as I will no longer be into autoXing and will be playing Forza 24/7/366.

Some guys have come out with a 3rd party tool so you can run a lan game over the internet. It apparently works pretty well. I downloaded the software, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Read here: http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55956

and get the software here: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/
