My favorite mod I've made has still got to be the backup camera. I put a Kenwood video head unit in and had a backup camera put in the rear bumper. It's right over the trailer ball. And it switches to that camera automatically when you put the truck in reverse. So now hooking up to a trailer by myself is a *breeze* (which is good, because with those slack codrivers I have I end up doing *everything* by myself....*cough*). No more getting out, getting back in and moving four inches when you meant to move two, etc. First time, every time. :)

Anyone who wants to see a budget version of this, come check out "trailer cam" on my Sub that I have had on there for a few years. $40 X-10 camera on the tailgate glass and a $20 b&w TV up front = perfect alignment every time. I agree with Donnie, it kicks ass :) Not sure how to implement it on a pickup though...

Could such a swaybar be used to correct the steering issues that the bus has? It ain't that expensive ...

For what it's worth, I got the Helwig rear bar for the tundra and love it. It has tamed a lot of side to side rocking that you would get on uneven pavement, and makes corners a lot more fun (a relative thing with a 75 series tire).

Towing is better as well, for the same reasons as above.

Ride quality isn't changed noticabally at all.

It makes a huge difference when encountering a bump mid corner - eliminating a lot of the pitching that used to occur.

If they made a bigger front bar I'd buy that too.

It couldn't hurt. It's got a priority 2 on my list of things to do.

The bus has 12 leaf rear springs, so I think it's got a lot of rear roll control already. That chassis can handle up to 20 passenger boxes on it. 20 pass X 200lb = 4000 lb. We have, what, maybe 1000 lb in it including the tongue?

I think most of the flexy going on is at the tire sidewalls. Not a lot of body roll at all.

I could be wrong, and adding a rear sway would be an interesting experiment.

Mike,

Thats what I thought with our Camper Van (Dodge 1 ton chassis) but adding a Helwig rear bar did help. Installing Dualies (as you plan for the Bus) wasn't an option for us and but suspect dualies would be a better option for the Bus.

Have you taken a tongue weight of the trailer yet? If not do you need a pair of hands?
