I just hope he makes it. Don't want to be hearing about no reliability issues. :)

I've been resisting the *incredible* urge to not click BIN on the eBay auction for the Chrome Orange with sport package. Car comes in a few weeks. Ugh.

Fortunately I've changed my mind...I thing instead of CO I want Graphite Grey with red interior. I can't decide if I want to give up the 12 pounds for the touring package, but I'm definitely getting the sport package and the hard top.

What is the concern?

A brand new Lotus Elise is probably more reliable than most of the cars in Tarheel, not even counting the rally beaters. :D

FYI, I drove my Lotus Europa from California to Kansas and then driven it home. Also drove it from Raleigh to Kansas, and drove it home. (only needed to do one repair in the paddock :D ) Kelly did lots of long distance driving in her Europa . . . it (usually) didn't break down. Of course, there is the time when I used one of my spare parts to fix the throttle cable of a friend's Turbo Esprit in an Atlanta parking lot at about midnight before the Walter Mitty.

It's so easy to rile up them formula car drivers. ;-)

I'm not concerned about long term reliability...I should have been more specific. I *am* concerned about first run bugs and problems that will only be found on initial cars in customers hands. I hope *those* are at a minimum.

Don't forget that the Elise is on the market since a few years in Europe.
In a more lightweight package that we have here, thanks to the collision requirement. So reliability should be quite good ( even if it's an English car). The engine is from Toyota so less of concern there.
The last time I went to the Nurburgring ( 2 years ago) I saw a many Elise
over there. A group of guy's from England had drove to Ring to have some fun. I remember to have spoke to one of them and I was really enjoying is car.

Patrice
After the Porsche this is the car I like to have.

It's my understanding that the entire drivetrain (and thus electronics) are new for this model, so while a car that *looks* the same has been available in Europe for several years, it isn't really the same car we're getting here.

Of course, some could argue that no matter what you do the Toyota drivetrain will be more reliable than the Rover drivetrain it replaced. ;-)

That sounds like a really fun trip. One of my dreams is to pick up a E46 M3 convertible in CA off eBay and spend about a month driving it back. Now I just have to figure out where to get $55k and a month off work and I'll be set.
