I am shopping for a car trailer and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or suggestions where to look. I have been to Rigsbee's out on 64 in Knightdale, but would like to do a little comparative shopping before I buy. Where are some other dealers around Raleigh (or farther if need be)?

The two best bets "locally" are Kraftsman and Kaufman. Both are nice trailers, and made locally so you get pretty good pricing.

Aluminum trailers are quite popular, especially if you have a tow vehicle with marginal towing capacity or are covering long distance. They are more expensive to start with but have a good resale value. This seems to be popular one that I see a lot at AXs with modular bolted extrusion construction, lots of options: www.trailex.com This one is popular with the low slung crowd and doesn't use ramps: Sloan Kwik-load trailer.

Scott-
Where do I find "Kraftsman" and "Kaufman"?

Chuck-
Those aluminum trailers are nice, even if you have a tow vehicle with better than marginal towing capacity, but I am a cheap b*st*rd!!

Kraftsman is just west of Siler(sp?) City on 64 - about 30 mins from Cary. I bought one this spring and am very happy with it.

Mine is a Kaufman, and it's been great. It isn't quite as pretty as the Kraftsmans though.

I bought a Kraftsman in 2002. I have been very, very happy with it. It *appears* to be a bit nicer than the Kaufmans for close to the same price.

I think Siler City is a little more than 30 minutes. I drove out, looked at the ones they had, ordered one customized, and came back 2 weeks later to buy it. My full-deck with spare, etc was a little over $1600 back then. I certainly expect they are more now with current steel prices.

Another vote for Kaufman. I like my trailer and haven't had any trouble with it. :) My favorite feature is the removable driver's side fender. Wish I'd done both sides though.

Come 'on Mike, if you can't do 37 miles in 30 minutes, you aren't driving fast enough! :)

Prices haven't increased much - I paid about $1900 in April for a full deck, break away kit and stone deflector (kit and deflector were about 300 if I remember right).

Mine came from SouthAg in Wendell. They make them there, and the guy semi-customized it for me. I've been very happy with it. www.southag.com
