I had the unfortunate pleasure of turning onto a road that was just sprayed with the oil primer for paving. NO warning just sticky, oozzy stuff all over my car. Can someone recommend a good local detailer? I tried tar remover stuff from Turtle wax and it works great on small clumps but I have it on pretty thick in spots. I want it all out, wheel wells included. Recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

Something similar happened to my wife a week or so after we purchased her TL. I ended up using a claybar to take it off the paint. It did a great job, but was a VERY slow process. I didn't attempt to do anything for the wheel wells though. Goodluck...

3M Adhesive Remover works pretty well, and won't hurt cured paint. You should be able to get it at a auto paint shop (Like Car Quest behind the Red Lobster off Old Wake Forest Rd.).

Thanks folks. I'll probably try both the clay and the 3M stuff. I appreciate your help.

Thanks, Chris

good ol Mineral spirits (odorless paint thinner) or Naptha (from a paint store or Coleman lantern fuel from Wally-world) dissolves road tar as well as anything on the market and is much cheaper than the repackaged stuff with the fancy names. If you are serious about taking it out of the wheel wells (what's wrong with free undercoating?) I'd put it in one of the small pump up garden sprayers, and catch and reuse it and/or dip a course textured rag in the stuff and wash liberally until all the lumps are gone, then rinse with clean solvent/rag. For the wheel wells, one of the plastic string "Chore Boy" type scrubbers will speed up the process. Be sure to wear kitchen or chemical type rubber gloves not the thin ones like the doctor puts on just before he has you bend over and work in a WELL ventilated area with your head upwind of the fumes.

PS: next time think about buying a black car!
LOL!
