Figured out we did 56 runs at the Oscoda Pro Solo with my car this weekend. Thats 56 hard 1.8 to 1.9 60ft time 5000-6000RPM launches and hard 1-2 shifts (a couple while staying on the gas  )

Toledo Pro Solo a few weeks ago was 30 hard launches.

Peru Pro in a month will be another 50 launches then followed by another 30 or so at the Pro Finale.

I wonder if the tranny will last through the season

I'm serious here Tom, get a spare tranny before nationals and take it with you.

Tom,

What you didn't mention is how well you and apparently others are doing while abusing that transmission.

The link to the results on the SCCA website is broken so far but I hear that you won your class and the Super Challenge and that Miranda won the Bonus Challenge at Oscoda. You won the Honda Street Challenge and STX at Toledo.

Maybe you should replace the transmission BEFORE the Pro Solo Finale. It is kind of hard to replace a trans between heats/runs.

I also understand that Eric Peterson and GH Sharp won their classes also.

We aren't sucking thats for sure ;)

Miranda kicked ass in the Bonus Challenge and broke out by almost a full sec twice! Shawn took 2nd in STX behind me this weekend as well. The car is friggin awesome.

Peterson won CS even though he coned his by far fastest run on the left. GH also took DS.

Tom have you considered getting a JDM STI 5 speed and just not telling anyone what the box is? They are strong and from what I understand have similar gearing. It's might be more expensive to start but i'm sure you wouldn't break it as easily as these standard models.

This reminds me of this post:

Posted: Fri Jul 02, 2004 10:02 pm Post subject: Cav Parts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mighty H-Stock cav had some bodywork done by a tree. Got some parts for the slew of Cavalier Autoxers out there.

Rear Konis
Full set of slotted GR-2's
Front Swaybar
16 inch wheels and falken tires 5 by 100 bolt with 42 mm offset(pretty sure that's the offset anyway )
Subframe brace
engine mount insert
tight azz sidepipe exhaust.
o2 sim
gutted cat

Are all of these parts from your 'stock' Cavalier? If so, it easily explains your previous post. - AB

Damn Aaron are we sharing a brain or something recently. I was thinking the same thing back when he originally posted that thread.

I never ran it with the subframe brace installed. That was something I put in to keep the front end stiff and wheel hop under control on the street. You can ask Vincent and Sonya about how tuff the Isuzu diff is when it starts hopping. Really the only illegal part on the car when I ran it was the engine mount, I broke two stock ones which are expensive, why keep paying alot of money for a POS when the aftermarket is cheaper and better. If i really wanted to cheat, there are tons of better ways on a Cavalier to get it done that wouldn't be caught.

Same goes for Tom, why keep buying a gearbox that is a total POS. What will this be the 4th transmission going into this car. I guess I have a hard time understanding this thread then. Is it to make us think you are cool for being hard on your equipment?? I sure as hell wouldn't be buying a standard unit again. Autox is fun but you'd don't get paid to do it. Sounds like a huge waste of money in parts to me.

I think the point was that he wanted to put the words "hard on" in the title of a thread.

I've always said I was "easy on the transmission". Then this weekend I actually counted how many launches we did.....Just thought it was pretty funny...focker

I haven't "bought" one yet, as if I had to I wouldn't do it any longer :)

First, even the mount makes you truly *illegal*. My guess is that the slotted struts and gutted cat were on the car, and are also illegal. Not that it matters much now...

As for Tom, he doesn't want to cheat to win, and if he does, more than likely someone will catch him for it. You have no clue how much time National level people put into knowing the illegal performance mods on competitor's cars. Especially ones that would be 'hard to detect'. Hell, I know of things that the Civic boys in STS think are undetectable. ;) How do I know? I didn't buy a Honda Civic factory manual just because I own the car. It has become very helpful.

As for parts that 'should' be replaced with non-factory replacements because they are a POS, ask Vincent about the twice a month wheel bearings he replaced on his Cavalier, because he knew that the OE part was crap, but he wanted to stay within the rules.

In other words, cheating pisses me off. - AB

you would probably not believe what nits are picked in the protest shed at nationals... Some competitors will protest a laundry list of items just to go on a fishing expedition.
