Well, it has finally happened. I went and got my Miata!!!!! It was a long drive back from Tampa but it was well worth it. The only part of the drive that sucked was when the alternator crapped out about 10 miles short of Orlando. I was able to make it to a Pep Boyz to have it fixed. (and I forgot my vaseline!) I could have done it if the car was at my house, but I had not tools with me. I'll know for next time.

Anyway me and my 1992 Sunburst yellow Miata will be ready for STS2 sometime later this year. We will be trying hard for our DFL finish in the inagural season for STS2 in THSCC next year!!!!!! Right behind Dan and Ryan!!

Miatas are great aren't they? Congrats on the SunBurst! That was my second choice, but I had to go with Mariner Blue.

I'll get some pics soon. If I had a digi cam, they would already be up. Gotta wait for Sam's to get them back in.

I had forgotten how much fun Miatas are to drive. The Mustang feels like driving a truck in comparison!!! But it makes up for poor handeling with butt loads of torque! ;)

Well it does have a solid rear axle just like a truck :D

Sorry couldn't resist that one

Todd,
You could always do a little engine swap and drop a 302 into the miata. Monster Miata with butt loads of torque. :redcool:

I can't imagine what a Monster Miata must be like to drive. But my 4.6l won't even fit in the engine well of the Miata. Dementionally, it is larger than the old 427FE engines. Way too big for the Miata.

The 5.0 motor will fit. There was an outfit that built Monster Miatas. Car and Driver or Autoweek had an article about the details of the swap. As I remember the 302 dropped in without modifying the crossmember. They even used a stock Miata rearend in the car.

Hey,

I resemble that. :D When I had my 88 Mustang 5.0 Hatchback I called it my idea of an SUV. Even towed my real race car (formula ford) with it for a couple of years and many thousands of miles.

There was a write up in the old version of Miata Magazine about how to do the swap yourself. IIRC it didn't seem "that" hard. It was (is) beyond my fabrication abilities though. The winner of the GRM $2003 Challenge built one for less than $2003 that was a freakin rocket ship!!!!

Hey Adam,

What kind of rear axles do those Golfs have? Twist beam? Just like a K-car?

Sorry, I couldn't resist making fun of two German manufacturers in one post. :)

Todd,

My little excursion (pardon the non-sequitur) into Miata land a couple of years back was an eye opener. They are so darned easy to drive pretty well. Also, you have lots of time between corners to smile and wave at everybody.

The $2003 monster Miata was an achievement in creative accounting as well as sheer engineering skill. Selling off Miata parts on ebay is still profitable, and the Mongrels added that money back into the budget for some great deals on a Cobra IRS center section, some dirt-track suspension parts, an EFI 302 and then just plain old elbow grease to get it all together and shine it up for the race. There's a lot more work in that Miata than ever went into my Suprang, and the quality was top-notch. And they were some of the nicest guys I've ever met.

This year, the rules changed so you couldn't add so much money back into your project. One of the Mongrels brought a "Mostly Stock" CRX... with a mostly stock 350ci engine, mostly stock Corvette front suspension and K member, mostly stock Mustang 5.0 floorpan and mostly stock Mustang rear end. It was pretty kick-butt.

Hmmm... I may end up with an extra FE engine... I bet it would fit in the Miata ;)

Nope didn't think so :P
