Instead of hijacking Rodney's garage/shed thread, I thought I would post some pics here of the currently under construction garage in my back yard. I have been looking forward to this for some time now. Hope the pics work...

The footings look insanely over built to me, but nice to know I can add a few more stories in the future!

Whoa, huge pics. Is there an easy way to resize them on the forum?

Use lower resolution photos, or convert the embedded images to regular http links.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Sorry for the confusion. I recently switched from Android to I-phone.

Anyone else wondering if Jordan's cars will defy gravity like his pics?

Let me try again with these pics.

An interesting feature, maybe annoyance, is that the floor is sloped from rear to front by 1.5" over 22 feet. Apparently this is required for code so spills run toward the front. What this means for me is that I will have to remember to use the parking brake :?

Wished I'd had the cash for something like that, but I'm happy with my workshop... Looking good Jordan!

Don't worry about the slope. It really isn't that much that things go rolling unless they are really lightweight. Looks good.

Good to know, that makes me feel better about it.

Since both you and Rodney have or are having electrical work done, can you recommend an electrician? I have 200 Amp service with a 150 amp panel inside my house, but I am thinking the way to go is to install a new 200 AMP main/meter base outside and from there split service to the inside panel and garage.

Thanks! At least you have a garage. Your new found storage in the shed should free up space in the garage.

Looks nice. Out of curiosity, why aren't there any anchors installed for the walls before the pour? Do they do those later with a turned-down slab? (only familiar with footer based construction, where they are dropped into the brick holes...).

Subpanel is a good idea. FWIW, and this goes against the "overkill" mentality around here, I have dual-60 amp service for my 836 sq ft workshop and I have never once needed more or popped a subpanel breaker. This is with lift, welder, IR heaters, AC, and air compressor. There's just never been a time that more than 60a was needed at once, in 16 years of all kinds of foolish projects...

They placed anchors for the back and side walls shortly after that picture. For the front wall they will drill. This give some flexibility in placing doors. The front will have a pair of 12" LVL's spanning the entire width. If I wanted, I could put an extra garage door in there in place of a personnel door and window.

Mike, good to know about your experience with 60 amp service. Lots of homes for years had 60 amp service, so that should be more than adequate for my purposes.
