When I bought this bright red car from Mike Whitney, it came hard wired for a Valentine One Radar detector. Being an insurance agent, I feel like a hypocrite having a radar detector but I planned on getting one anyway. I wasn't planning on going on a trip anytime soon so I hadn't gotten it yet.

I know you can guess the story. I got called to Ohio to see a gravely ill sister, to make the trip a little more fun I took the Pcar and we were going to stop for lunch at http://www.thedogs.com/. On Hwy 58, just before you get on the nice two lane twisties with 55 mph speed limit there is a long stretch of wonderfully paved four lane with a huge grass median with plenty of room for Virginia's finest to sit. Did I mention it was a 45 mph speed limit? Yep 64 in a 45 Performance Award. The fuzzy face cop also said it sure was a nice car.

At least the GPS sent me on a great road I have never discovered on the way back to 77. 15 miles of wonderful two lane.

Anybody got any experience with tickets in Stuart VA?

1. That sucks, VA is a Nazi police state.
2. My previous attempts to lawyer up for "performance awards" around the Richmond area have failed.
3. Car sounds dangerous, better sell it to me.

FYI I have a V1 for sale. I found out about 10 years ago it was easier and less stressful to slow down or take it to a track.

The best way to get out of a ticket in VA is to plead stupidity. My wife appeared in court in front of a countrified judge many years ago, and got so flustered upon seeing the arresting officer that she pleaded guilty! The judge was so impressed that he dismissed the charges.

I know a Va. State Policeman who lives in Christiansburg.. no that won't help.

One of my college roommates is now a lawyer managing an Insurance co. claims fraud unit in Richmond. No, that won't help either.

When I got a ticket in Dinwiddie many years ago in my "Brilliant Crimson" SHO, my father hauled out his Martindale & Hubbell attorney directory and we picked one of the three attorneys in Dinwiddie. Chose the oldest one figuring he might be a hunting buddie of the judge. My $300+ got the 11 over reduced to 1-9 over. Woo-hoo!

Martindale & Hubbell is online now: http://www.martindale.com/find-lawyers- ... firms.aspx

Check with Bowie's traffic attorney to see if he has any tips or contacts up there.

I'm the same way, the last three tickets I have gotten (over the last 10 years) have been in these kinds of situations, common sense says the speed limit is at least 55 but it's a speed trap. If they want to give me a ticket because I'm driving in a reckless manner ok, but when it is just a revenue enhancer it pisses me off. I drove like a made man one mile later but now cops would be there cause there is no where to hide or convenient place to pull somebody over.

How old is your V1, btw, Vincent and my phone won't talk to each other, anybody got a fix?

Dammit Cline, stop talking about driving the 996, you're making it hard for me to get over it. If you sleep with someone else's wife, do you post about it on Facebook too? Sheesh, attention whore...

Serious point #1: Get a V1 and get over your moral dilemmas. This is a battle over your money and who gets to keep it, you or them (including the blood sucking insurance industry, ha!). Information creates an advantage, and the V1 creates information. I don't care if I'm going 0 over, 5 over, or driving 25 over with a beer between my legs while texting someone, I want to know that there's a cop up ahead checking speed.

Serious point #2: Anyone use Waze? I can't believe I only recently discovered it. Now THAT's a cool information device.

Serious point #3: If you ever sell the Porsche I want 1st dibs to buy it back :)

Yes, other than directions and commuting time, the best use of Waze is to know when speed traps are coming. It's excellant for heavily traveled roads. As always you are on your own for back roads etc.

Radar detector wouldn't have saved you there anyway, they're illegal. Apparently they have systems to detect them also if they're on.

I have a Bel RX65 and it's certainly saved me a few times, in fact, it saved me coming back from the christmas party too. All black unmarked charger late at night with no lights on, I certainly wouldn't have seen him if my detector didn't warn me.

My last speeding ticket was in 2007 coming back from an autcross in Sanford. I bought a Valentine One the very next day. After about a year of hearing it each day, I made the conscious decision to slow down and sold the unit. I do 5-7 mph over the speed limit if I am speeding at all. I drive a lot more relaxed because of it and I haven't even been pulled over in the last 8 years.

Being that Cline insures me, he should be thankful of this :) - AB

My thoughts exactly. I been pulled once since going 5 MPH over, on I-95 no less. I was shocked to get pulled for just 5 over, but I didn't get a ticket.

Generally speaking on a short trip, speeding makes to logistical sense anyway. My wife got a ticket in Tarboro for 59 in a 45 because she was 'late'. I informed her that the to make it on time she would have needed to be be doing twice that speed so it wasn't worth it. After she had to spend $350 for an attorney, she finally agreed.

I agree that speeding tickets on a interstate are revenue generators, but since I don't have the extra revenue to pay folks like Cline to by more P-cars, I just slow down.

You know you're old when....

...your last speeding ticket was in 1983  and only because the Escort (original version of course) decided to quietly quit working.

Mine was 1988, so it's been awhile for me also. I got two within six months of each other back then and the lawyer fees even back then were still $300 which was a TON of money to me at that time.

I want to speed, but I can't afford it!

I haven't had a ticket in about 5 years now. I've definitely been taking it easy, and while not hypermiling, the past few months of fill-ups in the Mazda2 have yielded way above the sticker. Averaging about 37mpg this year, got up to 40mpg last tank.

I've been pulled over by the cops still, but no tickets.

I just remembered that I got caught with a radar camera in Germany in 2010. I was going what I thought was "slow enough" in this city street headed toward the motorway, and I think the speed limit was 30kph (18mph), and I was caught on camera going 41kph (25mph). Minutes later we were doing well over 200kph on the unlimited autobahn, totally legal of course. :D

A ticket notice came through Avis from Germany, but then I received another note that said the ticket was waived.
