NASA moved Hyperfest to VIR this year. It used to be at Summit Point in WV up until this year.

It'll be a regular NASA race weekend with a bunch of other activities spread across VIR. There is some kind of autocross on south paddock as well as various car type games and a bunch of drifting type events.

For those looking at track there are also Hyperdrive tickets still available. Not exactly sure of the format at this event, but typically they are a full 20-25min session on the track. It looks like they are doing them on Patriot instead of Full course. It's a good way to try out HPDE without having to drop a full entry fee. If you end up liking it your next stop is http://goo.gl/0ODgMD.

They even have a Rodney autocross competition. http://hyper-fest.com/?session=drift-limbo

We don't have anything going on that weekend, but it is the same weekend as Pinehurst.

At Oktoberfast they put the hyperdrives in with the HPDE1 group, I think it was the 3rd session, and they did a simple car inspection at the tech shed.

I'd probably go if it weren't for Jessi's Birthday being that weekend, trust me I tried to suggest it might be an awesome way to spend a birthday but she didn't bite haha.

There are also "rally sprints" on Sunday. I should be up there the whole weekend.

They're short of instructors, so if you instruct at the Patriot Hyperdrive on Saturday, then you get free track time with no students on Friday and Sunday.

I'd probably be there if I wasn't racing at CMP that weekend.

Actually kinda talked the wife into a hyperdrive but then realized they're only doing them on Saturday which she has to work. Oh well.

Same here. I've been wanting to do one of their events....but can't wait to race a CMP that weekend!

They changed the instructor overloading. They are trying to make sure every instructor gets only one student at each event. Apparently there were complaints. At the NASA VIR event last month I had one check ride with a blue group solo (NASA lets people designate as solo drivers within each group) and one Hyperdrive ride. So a total of three sessions of instructing for the weekend. It actually wasn't a bad event. I prefer THSCC events, but that's why I go to all of those.

Did they change who gets screwed if there is a wreck during the races which requires clean-up time? The last time I ran with them, the HPDE folks had to forfeit a session because of a wreck that happened in the race. I understand that time has to be taken from somewhere, but it wasn't taken away from the next race session.

The hyperdrive I drove at Oktoberfast was only about 12 minutes long of a 20 minute session. Also the session wound up being almost every car stuck behind one car that wasn't giving point bys and was driving like a grandma on sunday.

It was a waste of $50.

I have participated with NASA, and will say that NASA and others are for-profit clubs thus their objective is to make money. THSCC is a non-profit club. The objective is to how best educate our students.

Nope, that hasn't changed. There were multiple wrecks and explosions, at one point oiling the track down from halfway down the back straight all the way through Hogpen, and whomever was running at the time got to sit there while they cleaned it up.

My Hyperdrive ride was also a full session on a reasonably clear track. I rode in a K20-swapped Civic that was pretty fast, and we weren't getting held up by anyone.

I will agree with Vincent that THSCC has a much better focus on providing service to students, from instructor qualification to classroom material to seat time.
