I noticed N2 track days has quite a few track days at VIR this year. I was thinking about becoming a member there but had been holding out to see if they would start doing VIR again.

We walked through the paddock of a bike event one time, after seeing all the patched up fairings and duct taped leather I pretty much got grounded from tracking my bike. I guess I could tell my wife I was riding to the mountains for a weekend

Lol, my wife has a CBR250R, I wonder if I could talk her into letting me ride it on the track, i'm going to guess probably not.

I do want to track the FZ1 sometime, but I need to get some proper gear and boy is it not cheap. Especially when you're looking at 1k+ just for leathers, plus boots and gloves.

I have pretty decent street gear but it's not up to track standards.

I don't recall seeing a helicopter at the CCS event I went to last year.

Cline, I see your incident with the dog and the subsequent pavement didn't teach you much did it? :stick:

It doesn't sit there, but I've been told by VIR folks that it is a rare event that it doesn't come at least two times.

On the contrary, now when I see a dog I accelerate.

I did a bunch of south course track days back around 2000-2002 with a VERY good group. We never had anyone airlifted, but near the end we did have a friend of mine shatter his pelvis. This guy is as smart as they come, generally VERY conservative, and had been riding a LOT since he was a young kid. In every way he was a better rider than me and I respect him a lot. And he made one tiny *mistake* and ended up with a shattered pelvis.

That's why I stopped doing that kind of thing on motorcycles.

Up to that point, I was pretty good. I'd drag my knees regularly. I once rode a wheelie out of Oak Tree (as in the front came up right after I passed the apex but was still in nearly full lean). The only time I ever went off was my first track session in the rain, and that was a VERY low speed event.

When Brian Smith was in charge of the track at CMP he said their track days ALWAYS had people going to the hospital, often with fatalities.

My wife's farrier shattered a wrist and damn near tore off his thumb coming out of T14 CMP. Last track day he ever did.

I get the higher risks of riding over tracking in cars. With either type of automotive activity there is an increased risk of getting injured. I know of more people over the past year that have been hurt in cars then I do on bikes. and I know plenty of people who have wrecked on a bike. I have visited a few friends doing track days and there were wrecks but no ambulance usage.

We buy cheap track cars assuming they are disposable. I buy motorcycles assuming they will fall over, after all, how many 2 wheeled devices do you know that will stand up on their own without falling over?

Cline,

I think there are way more variables riding on public roads then on the track. Based on those who push it on the street vs track, I think people trying to ride at the same level on the street (stupid) end up wrecking more often than on the track. Im pretty sure this carries over to car's as well.

EDIT: tho I do admit the consequences of wrecking on a bike are worse than in a car

You gotta die of something.

If you enjoy riding the bike hard that much and don't care about the extra risk, then by all means...
