There were 9 cars in 2011 who had no deaths and zero rollovers. They compare this to the cars with the most deaths and tout it as being due to safety equipment. While there is some truth to that, I wish you could do a study of the behavioral patterns of the drivers of these cars. For example, the Yukon 4wd is on the top of the list and the Surburban 1500 2wd is on the bottom of the list. Basically the same car but a 60 death difference.

This probably doesn't interest anybody but me.

Yep. Look at any line of cars outside your local elementary school waiting to pick up the kiddies in the afternoon. I counted three in a row at one point yesterday at Root Elementary.

There results are pretty interesting and was surprised to not see any convertibles on the 'bad' list. Lower production numbers play a part I'm sure though.

We own a 2013 Odyssey, and it replaced a 2005 model. Great vehicles, did not regret buying one and would do it again. While it is interesting information, it is too bad it won't result in an insurance rate discount...

No it is mostly behavior driven. People that plop down money on a new convertible have already gotten to a certain level in life which means the operate their life in a higher plan than others and usually have a bit of experience driving. The Kia Rio driver is young, and stupid, it's the only car they can afford they pack it with their friends, after getting off work at Mcdonalds they drive to concerts get high and text. Roll over and get killed. Compare that to the Kia Sorenta, soccer moms who put their kids in race seats.

Interesting blip is the Mercury Marquis, old folks that have lost motor skills.

This is a highly unscientific study and is just based on my personal experience and my very correct opinions

Good point on the convertables Cline and I'm sure you see what ends up in body shops more often than not.

I wonder how the Brz/fr-s stacks up in these stats relative to the low production numbers. I see at least a half dozen a week that get totalled on the Bookface entusiest group photos. Guess that's why it's $95 a month to insure with a clean record and 20 years of driving and multiline discounts. :x

What would be more interesting would be to list the following demographics for each of the cars on the list:

1. Average age
2. Household income

Did someone say "correlated but not causal" ?

All my clients that have BRZ's are extreme boring nerd types!! Hell, my attorney got permission from his wife that he could buy one if I gave permission for him to have a straight. True story.

I wonder how the stats break out for the Camaros, not a lot of young people driving SS's around, but V6 on the other hand.

That's a lot of money insurance wise for a BRZ too, i'm 30 and have a 426 HP go fast car, and my insurance with full coverage on the SS and a 2014 Wrangler don't even come to 95/month.

You mean manual transmission? Are you suggesting that insurance companies frown on cars that require a tiny bit of coordination to drive?

I think that is what his wife wanted me to tell him, after about a year he traded it for a Subie with a slushbox.

Glad I got the 4WD Sequoia :)

Statistics are just numbers sometimes. This is the case here without more context like Mike is asking for. That said, when my Armada got totaled (rear ended that bent the frame badly), I did take into consideration buying something "better rated" than the Armada. I never had an issue with my Armada in 50k miles, but according to most, I was lucky. - AB
