Are there any HVAC techs in the club?

We are having a problem with our downstairs AC and need to have it checked out.

Jason,

If no one in the club is an HVAC tech, we've used Service Experts for years (installation and twice yearly service). Our units are Lennox. Their number in Raleigh is 836-8310. Durham and Chapel Hill is 968-4386.

I think there are a few HVAC techs in the oxy welding class I am in right now. If you want I can see if anyone works on the side.

Bump. Need a whole new AC/Heat Pump/air handler (old system self destructed the compressor AND air handler).

Considering ordering a unit separately and installing myself, having somebody come in "on the side" to do final hookup stuff.

BUT, if I can find somebody that won't bend me over the table, I'll just let them do the whole thing. Any new recommendations for a either a good overall installer, or know somebody who would work with me (on the side)?

My dad has an HVAC guy in the Raleigh area who he swears is the best thing since sliced bread. I'll get his info in a few + post back.

BTW- this guy seems to really know his stuff, he's always been 100% straight and honest- gives a no-BS opinion and is willing to explain and work with you on what options you might have to get your system fixed.

Tell him Tom Luter (my dad) referred you if you like.

Suddenly you are feeling like you should have signed that form for a home warranty...

That's a separate thread in itself (I know some folks who swear by the things).

Another vote looking for any further input. Mom uses Louis Heating and Air and recommended them highly...however, I'm having problems getting them to actually do anything.

All electric, coil has failed, likely need entire system replaced. FWIW.

Yes, thus the desire to not be bent over the table.

The short, warranty to replace the units with the cheapest crap known to man, through the cheapest possible contractor. Warranty company cost: $985 for everything. Additional fees I'm responsible for to complete the install: >$1200. The only option I have is to take the $985 the warranty company would have invested, and figure out the details myself, which is likely what I'll do.

On a positive note, the seller offered the warranty (no money out of my pocket), and the cheap contractor verified that everything needs to be replaced for the initial $45 "copay", and I get nearly a grand to invest in whatever I want to put in. Would I ever buy one of these warranties myself, heck no!
