And now we've hit every point of a THSCC discussion.

And are people intentionally missing the fact that the incident that kicked this whole mess off was in the comments of the photos?

It's hard for me to get in to a state of moral outrage when I have no idea what that quote means......

That's odd. Of the comments that I saw, there was more disrespect to "old men". And there was nothing subjective about that.

Did anyone notice that the THSCC name is pretty prominently displayed in this pic?

Serious question- should we ask TSCC to edit/delete that pic?

Hopefully you're joking. In the grand scheme this issue is pretty much irrelevant to how much enjoyment a member can get out of this club. It's definitely a dumb thing to resort to name calling and bashing people over.

I will also point out that communication venue struggles are nothing new. At one time the club only had meetings. Then came Heel and Toe. Then came the email list. Then the forum. Now FB. Each has had some amount of overlap with the prior way. I think each was probably considered pretty unofficial up until some point. Then each gets more and more serious. Kind of interesting, anthropologically speaking. And no, I wasn't here pre-email list. But I was pre-forum.

Good points Donnie, but unless I missed it I haven't seen any overlap from the Heel and Toe to Facebook. Used to be I could check in to hear from those that were involved more than I am and I could get a sense of what was going on. Our officers would write what no doubt was a tedious description of who, what and where.

In addition, somewhere on the first few pages was a listing of our current officers and which area of hobbyist activity they were attempting to keep alive and well.

In contrast, I go to Facebook and folks respond as if they are in charge and their statement is gospel. If Facebook is to be our next phase I would suggest at least a regular "hey ya'll this is wassup" post. Posting about upcoming events is barely scratching the surface of Club activity.

Personally, I don't think THSCC is quite ready for this just yet............

And as always................ feel free to shout me down.....................

Well, I didn't mean to imply that Facebook was the next phase. I like to think that the tree is simply forking a bit.

That said, seems like there were a few diehards who made sure we kept the email list around because they weren't going to read no dang forum. But now the forum is being touted as official, though I'm not *sure* there was ever any vote on that. It just sort of took over. I don't *think* that will happen with Facebook, but my reason is pretty much the "because there are a bunch of people like Aaron who refuse to use it." But that's no different than the email list was, and we know where that went.

The funny thing is that while I've long been a member of the THSCC FB group, this thread has made me think seriously about dropping it. And not because I'm pissed about the picture situation, but because if it's really just a marketing thing that's also being used as another avenue for event reminders, I have no use for it and don't really want it cluttering my timeline.

Oh, and one last thing for everyone reading this (and particularly those arguing VEHEMENTLY on EITHER side of the debate) to remember: You can't argue with emotion. Period, end of story. When it comes to things that generate an emotional reaction, telling people they are "wrong" to respond that way will never EVER work. Explaining why YOU feel differently is fine and can often lead to intelligent debate about emotional topics. But doing so in a condescending manner certainly won't win you any arguments with emotion, either. You have your emotions, other people have theirs. Nobody likes to have their emotions argued with, and we all have them based in different perspectives and experiences.

And I'd like to thank the current officers and all the officers who have ever served this great club. It's not easy and it's usually thankless. I have no interest in doing it, but I respect those that do and have. I'd also say that while there may have been minor mistakes made in how this situation was handled on Facebook, I applaud those who have owned those mistakes and who are working hard both in the background and the foreground to see this situation through. It's just another bump in the road...

So as a social experiment THSCC's Facebook foray appears to be a failure compared to the Hell and Toe?

What became quickly obvious to me with this current dust up is that there are a large number of people, past and present members, following the THSCC Facebook page.

Since we don't require membership as prerequisite to attend our events, why should our Facebook page be so narrowly limited? It's not a business, but we try to break even. It's a volunteer organization but dissenting opinions are not welcomed.

I personally have been asked to go away (privately of course) on several occasions. I've even had to produce a canceled check to keep my forum account alive and reeling.

Thank less job indeed. I wouldn't do it. But I pay my membership dues and occasionally show up to an event. And then I go home.

It's one thing to mirror the Club to your vision but certainly another to try and mirror your membership to your vision.

THSCC hosted the NCAC event at which that photo was taken and one of our members recruited the trophy presenters. Then Triad won the NCAC Club Cup and posed for this photo in front of our trailer. It's a trophy of sorts for them. And that's what should get us fired up!

Also, I rather enjoy pivot cones.

After reading this entire thread, I think that the only conclusion I have come to is that Donnie should be the next president of THSCC. Donnie for President!

I'm pretty sure there's a bylaw somewhere that one needs to have shown up at a meeting or an event in the last three years to be considered for president. If there isn't, there should be. And that would disqualify me quite fully. :sing:
