So what is likely the most defining feature of the Mustang, the exhaust note, is gone?

Cynic in me says they are doing this so people buy more turbo 6s.

My understanding is that this engine is only for the GT350. It's not a replacement for the Coyote engine in the GT.

And I think it's a Turbo 4.

Yep you're right. Not sure why I was thinking turbo 6. Either way I can't see them developing a motor for this one application without the goal being to roll it out to more models. Unless it was a super simple modification and the R&D cost wasn't much. Are cams + crank + ECU all that's needed to go from cross to flat? Either way they had to run this thing through all the EPA emissions and fuel economy testing.

It looks pretty good and has some numbers that indicates that it can scoot along at a brisk pace.

Well, it didn't take long for this thread to latch onto the GT350. Makes the '15 Mustang GT w/Performance Pack seem like a Mazda 2. :P

The 2015 Mustang probably lifts up the rear wheel a little less than the 2. ;)

Doubtful that this crank will fit into the coyote block. my guess is that its an all new engine, or maybe its based on one of their racing blocks?

Either way, I suspect that the limited release in the GT350 is a way to limit their warranty liability if something goes majorly wrong with the new engine design. GM typically does the same thing by putting their newest engine creations in the vette and letting the trucks get the new engine a year or two later after some of the kinks have been worked out.

Has anyone else made this connection yet? The silver GT350 is hard-wired into the 10-year old part of my brain.

Thanks for posting that Art! It got me to thinking about my Hot Wheels cars. I have about 30-40 of them in a Hot Wheels case from the 1960s when I was a kid, and most of them are in very good condition with a few probably as new. I just looked at what these things are selling for today! (almost kept up with inflation, lol).

Everything I spend money on is due to my 8 to 14 year old brain. If I would have just been interested in finances or something productive back then.

Camaros or other sports cars too actually, the Corvette got the LS3 in '08 and the Camaro in 2010. The Vette has the new Lt1 now and it's expected the 6th Camaro will get it in 2016. I think it was the same when the Pontiacs were around, with the original GTO getting the LS1 and then the LS2 and the G8 essentially the same as the Camaro got the LS3. I think it does eventually trickle down to the truck motors, just not as much of a performance motor with the hollow valve stems and such.

That flat plane V8 in the video does sound great, but it doesn't sound mustang. I'm a bit torn on that, i've always been a GM guy but man do I love the note the Mustangs have always made.

:D

That's how I used to feel when I had to start dealing with fuel injection on a car. Webers and even a 4bbl Holley were so easy to tune and understand.
