Pam and I want to go camping up towards the mountains on the weekend of Oct 2-4. I'm looking for recommendations near Brevard, Boone, Ashville or somewhere near there. I know there's a lot of camp grounds, but I don't know what might be good or bad. Any suggestions?

I would definitely check out the Davidson River Campground. http://cfaia.org/davidson-river-campgro ... -carolina/

It's pretty comfortable with decent bathrooms and you can take a dip in the river if the chilly water doesn't bother you. Me and some buddies went last summer to ride Pisgah National Forest (literally directly across the street) and it was awesome. Plus, you can drive about 5 miles into Brevard for some decent beer joints and great breakfast restaurants too. We didn't hit the Oskar Blues Brewing company but it's on my list.

Matt is spot on. Whenever anyone asks about camping in that area, EVERYONE who has been there responds with that campground first. Every. Single. Time.

Also, I dont recall if it was in VA...Tellico has 4x4 trails up there..And camping too,if you dont mind seeing 4x4s everywhere you go..the camping up there is really good.KOA is not fun, unless you have a motor home.Be sure to reserve early anywhere you go,you will need it.We often drive up fri afternoon, stay sat and sunday, and leave sunday after noon.Hiking, mountain biking, dog walks, all a part of our weekend usually. We have found some epic mountian biking trails over the years,in all sorts of places. My sister lives up in boone with her husband..She works at APP state.Pretty up that way, awesome roads.Gonna be chilly that time of year, but thats cool.Blue ridge is cool, but pricey, pilot mountain has alot to offer for a lot less.Sliding rock is cold, but is fun even in the summer ,its cold.Hanging rock ,blowing rock,..But I tell you, we went to stone mountain in NC,I think it was called.Great hiking up there, it was sooooo cold when we went though.Early in the year, big wind storm that weekend,But it was so much fun.Peaks of otter, has alot of bugs, but the zoo that you can drive through is so cool. The animals are fenced in,once you enter so are you...But you can drive through at low speeds, and let the animals come up to you..The animals are all plant eaters, but you can feed them from a bucket of food.I suggest gettign two, only using one so that the animals dont take all of it.But it is alot of fun.I can ask my father what he thinks you should do.Grayson highlands is really cool too.You can go into a old mine, walk around...Get cool shirts, mntns are more fun than the beach in my mind.I lvoe the beach, but the mntns have a real draw to me,always have.
