I found this today on http://www.instructables.com

A $500 electric car race series.
It is not quite crapcan racing.

We got the vw for 600 dollars, so now we need to go 2000 dollar challenge, as the cheapest car there.we would not win much, but the cheapest car award is ours.especially if they substitute the autocross for a rally cross. Which is what I think they should do.

People always say that when talking about racing electric cars, but it's yet to be any more or less of an issue than in petro racing. The reality is the electric drag racing crowd are doing a nice job of not burning things down, and if electrical fires were going to be a problem, it would be there.

And you know what you do to put out an electric car fire? Water or normal extinguishers. There's no magic required.

It's 6 one way and half dozen the other. Normal cars are sitting on a plastic or sheet metal petrol bomb. I've seen fires at at least 3 chump races and those were one I attended.
